LCD-2 Rev 1 Compared to Q701

Hello all, I had these two cans laying around so I felt like comparing them:

Setup: iMac --> Bifrost Uber --> M^3 w/ Sigma o11 PSU

iMac was running Vox, using FLAC music by:

Santana: The Best of Santana
Daft Punk: Random Access Memories
The White Stripes: Elephant

Cables:

Canare Cable for LCD-2
Stock Cable for Q701
Cables to Go Shielded RCA Interconnect for DAC to Amp

The following songs made the differences so much more noticeable (and my favorite songs on each album):

Black Magic Women:
She's Not There:
Get Lucky:

Q701:
Pros: Lighter, More Comfortable when listening for 4 hours+
Cons: Bright, Harsh Highs, Rough Mids, Uncomfortable and unnatural bass.

Black Magic Women:
She's Not There:
Get Lucky:

LCD-2 Rev 1:
Pros: Better Instrument Separation, Smoother, Nice Highs, lovely mids, good bass
Cons: Heavier, Less Comfortable (more comfortable than Rev 2 LCD-2 IMO)

Honestly, the LCD-2 Rev 1 are more than comfortable enough if your listening for lets say 3 hours then take a break. I tend to listen for about 4 hours take a break (wear Q701) then come back to LCD-2 after 30 minutes then enjoy

The White Stripes sounded very similar on each headphone, so I decided not to include them in the review after all.

Conclusion: I paid $299 for the Q701, and $685 for my LCD-2 with the Canare cable, honestly it's worth every penny atsmile.gif

Anyone looking to upgrade there cans should try LCD-2.

Very interesting since I don't find my Q701 to be harsh up top, or rough in the mids. With enough power and a little bass boost I find my Q701 to be perfect for my tastes for low to moderate volume listening.

I was the same, but after you hear LCD-2 you notice it. I swear.

Different tastes I guess. I do have a dark headphone already, my T50rp, but it bores me and actually tires me out more than the Q701. I enjoy the excitement of the Q701.

Try LCD-2 you'll notice the differences. I used to love my Q701.

If anything, my next move will be an HD800.

Please elaborate: are the LCD-2 V1s more comfortable than V2s because pads feel differently? Or because of something else? Thanks.

I have not followed with news/changes of LCD-2s for a long time. I used to have late V1s. I heard V2's pads are deeper, which may also change the sound?

I'm using rev2's pads, but the headband is the rev1 stock headband which is lighter, softer, and more comfortable IMO.

We are printing shipping materials before we ship, and be aware that paypal does a horrible job of getting tracking numbers delivered. The shipping is based only on order date.
