My take on that, and thanks for the updates on the latest russian postings, is that after a bit of listening they said it wasn't that far off from the 960 according to that one user's impression. Off to check updates.

Almost there for funds now :)

I have been bitten again by the audiophile bug when I was almost sure I swore I would not fall back into this sort of thing. Here I go again! Hello Head-Fi. Sorry about my wallet! :)

As a contribution of sorts, I want to share with you all a great deal I found for the IHIFI 760. It is now available for the limited time of 9 days at a huge 50% discount, or US $102.63, at Ali Express ( http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ihifi-760-music-hifi-portable-player-mp3/1225760915.html ). I am not sure yet if I am going to go with this or stay with my Fiio E17 plan. But for the rest of you out there, I will wager dollars to donuts that this is an unbeatable offer if this can really deliver what its specs say it can.

So as far as Ali Express I have certainly heard of them before but have not had any dealings with them at all.

How hassle free and relatively secure is it to use?

Is a forwarding service necessary?

Really curious about that place.

Any light you can shed on them is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I cannot say, but someone on the Deals Thread said based on their experience shopping there it was "legit." If it is of any consolation, I also noticed that AliExpress has a form of buyer's protection very similar in some respects to that of eBay's.

I've been following google images as more pics show up of IHIFI 760.

Here's a picture next to FiiO X3, and HM-601, the 760 is rather wide width ways. I remember how wide HM-601  was, IHIFI 760 appears a little wider than that. HM-601 was rather a brick of a player portability wise imo.

And  another pic that makes the 760 look flashy.

You can find more pics here.

Interesting find, did the website of the first link give any sound comparisons between the X3 and the iHifi760?

Unfortnuately no, when I went to visit the associated site to that image it was showing as no longer available. I was hoping too.

Ah, that's a shame...As none of us Head-Fi'ers currently own the device, any words on its performance would have been a great start. Oh well!

The seller has no feedback... which means he has registered recently and has plenty of goods all with 50% discount. I would call that suspicious.

Well, that is not quite true.

Let me quote another owner of 760 from the russian forum (I hope he wouldn't mind):

"When compared to 960, 960 is like an experienced and talented musician who is sure about himself and doesn't have to pay attention to anyone, while 760 is more like a beginner, looking back at the critics and sometimes underplaying and not showing all he can do, sometimes overplaying. But you can definitely say they are relatives in sound signature... Soundstage of 760 is less wide, but just as deep as 960"

I was listening today this badboy. Sounds warm, musical, wide, with good layering and instrumental separation, lively vocals. Lot of pluses to say. 760 sounds similar to Teclast T51, but like some upgrade version. One minus is deepness of soundstage when comparing to 960, but if you haven't heard this device, you can find 760 to be perfect.
Also body is heavy.

No SDXC? 40gb is really isnt enough storage for me when FLAC is involved.

Would be interesting to hear about direct "head-to-head" comparison.

Berkovajazz, you have a modded Colorfly CK4, how does it compare with iHIFI760?

I've sold him. CK4+ in stock version is more neutral, while 760 is more musical and warm. It is hard to make a good battle without one fighter:)
