About "pristine iciness of the original sound", it's better to say "iciness of the sound of the 1.5.0. stock firmware" :)
For me bass, mids, treble are more separated, more airy.
And I agree with you, some ears can be tired, need an adaptation, 1-2 days :)
BTW, did you choose comfort volume level? I usually reduce volume level on the SU. (stock - 200 ~ SU 190, mid gain, for example).
Thanks for your opinion!
SU just a proof of concept that software tweaks hide WM8740 potential. That's all :)
Totally agree re firmware fitting the person. Just as eq is a personal thing.
"pristine iciness of the original sound" referred to the actual recorded sound created by Steely Dan, not necessarily to the method of playback. Aja was recorded in such a way, and mixed in such a way, that it sounds incredibly clean no matter what you play it on/with (to a point, of course). I used that album as a test because there are no issues with the mix.
Yes, as I said, I thought it was a bit of a wider soundstage. There seemed to be a lot more instrumental activity going on at a more noticeable level (pulled out of the mix). It may be that after a few days that affect would become "normal" and not be so tiring. To me, with my older ears, it just seemed a bit too active.
As I use an amp, I also think that what I was hearing would most likely be different (and perhaps less "tiring") if I was using just the DX50's amp through HO.
Again, my comments were not meant as a critique of your work. I appreciate your efforts, and that you are doing them for no charge.
