I look forward to doing it! I'm a strictly (c)iem guy, so the all-powerful DX100 might be overkill for me, but I do very much love it's soundstage and detail levels. Should be fun to see how the DX50 keeps up!

Not really.  A very powerful amp making a lower listening level a more pleasure full experience.  I like the sound of the DX50 but the DX100 will allow you to hear more information a the same listening level.

Sorenslim, I knew it'd be a matter of time before you joined the fray.  Look forward to hearing your impressions as well with the Heir stuff.  I haven't tried my 4ai/3ai with the DX50 yet.

A while back I asked iBasso and was told they are planning sometime in the future to update the firmware to support 24/192 S/PDIF over coax.

I realized I hadn't asked when that would be, so I asked for clarification:

Hi,
The 24/192 coaxial output will be supported in the firmware that we will release after 2~3 weeks.

Sincerely
iBasso Audio

So it looks like it will be at least 2 or 3 weeks before I decide whether or not to order the DX50.

At some point I will have to decide whether I should continue to wait for the DX50 or go with the X3.

Just received a reply from iBasso after suggesting three things, which were:

1.       In all views, after selecting a folder and going back to the previous one, you will be taken to the top of the list. I and many others scroll through our lists top to bottom, so this means that every time we select an artist/folder, we must scroll all the way down again.

2.       There are some issues with ID3 tags and filenames that have certain characters. The character ‘é’ sometimes shows up blank, sometimes not. The main problem for me however is that if the apostrophe; ‘ ; is present in a filename or ID3 tag, the files will simply refuse to play. The DX50 recognises the character on Folder/Album names, but when you open a file that has an apostrophe, it will refuse to open.

3.       The DX50 has both an Album view and Artist view. My preferred choice when browsing music is via Artist then Album, so that when you choose an artist, a list of their albums shows up, then you click the album and all the songs of that album shows up.

Hi,

Thank you for your bug report. We will rectify those bugs ASAP.

Sincerely

iBasso Audio

Don't know whether it's an automated reply or not, but things look hopeful.

fiio has James, iBasso has the guy in the shadows answering the emails. Both seem to acknowledge the problem and they try to solve them so there's no difference there imo. Well other than the fact that fiio has much better marketing...

Point 2 is the biggest issue for me at the moment and is causing havoc with some of my music. Some of it I've been able to rectify others just simply won't budge. I explained the issue in detail to ibasso this afternoon and support advised they would try and resolve on the next firmware update, but in same reply I was advised an update would be out tomorrow. I have no idea how big a deal this is to fix though

Yeah, the line-out is downright sexy. I wasn't so impressed with plugging directly in, from a listening/musical perspective. The lineout made a world of difference, especially in terms of clarity.

In general, I'm a believer in separate DAC/amp sections, so as a transport/DAC, this little guy shines.

As a DX100 owner (second batch) I ordered the DX50 with complete confidence in Ibasso's ability to rectify the bugs. Apart from the physically sticky keys that some report, all should be fixable in firmware.

sticky keys are the only thing that will change by "burn in" in this dap. everything else will be solved by firmware updates.

Amen.

I should receive mine on Thursday. I really want to know how it will sound with my $30 DIY amp via the line-out :D

What do you mean by reversed channels? You mean left is right and right is left? Still waiting for mine to arrive.

Yes, this has been noted by several users. It doesn't always happen, and when it does, replaying the file corrects it. iBasso is aware of this and it should be fixed very quickly.

On another topic, the EQ presets seem to be nicely done. Very subtle and appropriate for the specific genre. For those who want to "roll their own", the User setting seems to also work quite well. As is the case with the DX100, the EQ settings seem to be subtractive to prevent clipping and/or distortion.
