There should be no risk as long as you control the volume...as in keep it at listenable levels...

DX50 one week in - first impressions

First of all it hasn't frozen on me and I haven't had any volume surges. I am really enjoying it's musicality across anything that it plays from hard rock to classical.

Compared to my old ipod classic LO to GS Voyager, it seems to have more clarity, with a slightly harsher sound - not unpleasant in any way though.

As previously mentioned, I couldn't distinguish much difference between the DX50 thorough it's Amp and when LO into the GS Voyager,so logically the latter needed replacing. In looking through various options, I settled on the Leckerton UHA 6S mkII with the opamp 670. This seemed to have a great reputation for being a quality amp, you can roll the OPamps and I could use the coaxial out of the Dx50.

The Leckerton pairs really nicely with the DX50 - it widens the soundstage, provides more depth (great bass) but also hits the sweet spot with electric guitar solos and with the tubey sound of the well renowned 670s brings a necessary warmth to the DX50. It brings out the musicality of the DX50 and the music just soars. Wow it sounds good.

I mainly use this system on the train and I don't suffer any static interference from mobile phones now either. No hiss with my UE super fi pros and it drives the sennheiser 600s easily. Highly recommended pairing.

I haven't tested the coaxial out yet in any great detail.

Ok, so I seem to have made my scanning issues with the DX50 worse.   I was able to get all but a handful of albums scanned properly, and when fiddling with the ID3 tags, I dunno what happened to the player but now it is not showing *any* files in the Album view.

I can see the files in the Folder view, but I can no longer play them (I could do so earlier).

I have done a Factory Reset,  I have re-installed 1.25 and then done a Factory Reset, still no go.   The scanning lasts about a second or so, tops, and doesn't find any music, either in the SD card or the player's own memory.

I am guessing some database in the player is corrupted and needs to be deleted - any ideas which one?

You might have a damaged file system on the card. Eject the card while DX50 is on and let it run its media scan. Meanwhile, check the card with a USB or SD card adapter on a desktop or notebook computer.

I had a very similar issue, here is what I did:

Deleted the .album_img folder on the DX50 internal memory.
Disconnected the DX50 from the PC
Shutdown the DX50
Started the DX50
Let it scan (took about 20 minutes for my card)

Then the album listing was working fine including the directory listing and playing tunes. (I left my external microSD card in the DX50 all that time)

See if that would work for you.

Well, here is what worked for me - I re-started the device in recovery mode (switched it on while holding POWER ON, VOLUME UP and VOLUME DOWN buttons for 10 seconds).

After that, I chose the Reset option in the menu.   That seems to have solved it - all my files have scanned properly now.

I guess the Reset/Data wipe option is more effective in recovery mode than in regular mode.

Good point, when doing it from the menu, that has not solved my problem. Next time, I'll try that.

The title of this thread needs to be updated to the latest firmware and links.

Hey guys! to the DX50 owners out there. does the DX50 have a volume normalizing feature? I cant seem to find an answer to that anywhere. Thanks!

If you mean ReplayGain then it currently does not.

http://www.head-fi.org/t/680472/dx50-bug-list-wish-list-fix/990#post_10009144

has my workaround for ReplayGain. In brief: use ffmpeg to transcode with the volume filter. Just be careful not to overwrite your master copies since it is a destructive process even when transcoding between lossless codecs.

is there future plans for it?

This is my desktop headphone amp.  It`s made by a shop here in Tokyo, Andix Audio  andix.co.jp  The website is really oldschool and pretty much useless unless you can read Japanese; Google translate can`t do anything with it.  Despite that, their headphone amps are spectacular.  Highly recommended.  Mine is HPA 45 with 24/192 DAC
