The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.4 - January 24, 2016 - Page 236

Hi!

comparison to Fiio X3 and Hifiman hm601 - link: http://personalaudio.ru/detail/ibasso_dx50_v_sravnenii_s_fiio_x3_i_hifiman_hm601_slim/

Btw, have someone tried dx50 with O2 amp?

Due to noisier enviroment I need a closed headphones. Which one should I choose (my budget is arround 200 bucks). I am of thinking buying a Beyerdynamic dt 700 pro limited edition, it's still available, but the price is higher now (cca 250 dollars). No surprise, but according to what I read here, should be more "bliss" with dx50 than SoundMagic hp100...

I guess it's safe to try the DX50 first, and if this is an upgrade in sound in the right direction and I want more, I could still swap it for a DX100.

As someone who used iPods exclusively for the last decade, take my word and download MediaMonkey. If you're using Mac then search for other iTunes alternatives.

Hopefully iBasso makes playlists work a little more smoothly in the next firmware. Adding one track at a time to a playlist is a chore.

In the next firmware update, the ability to add albums to a playlist will be added.

That's a welcome addition that and scrolling list would be heaven and the long file names and ... biggrin.gif

For me, it's not just the design of the UI (the latest version of iTunes was pretty awful, IMO), it's the integration between player and music collection. It was trivially easy to create a playlist to transfer a particular set of tracks over to the player, and it's that that I'm really missing now I've got rid of my iDevices and gone Android phone/DX50. Both of which sound far better than any of the iDevices I've ever owned :)

If Apple ever make an  audiophilePod that plays FLACs, I'll be all over it just for the ease of transferring files.

I recommend JRiver Media center, easy to drag and drop into DX50 and work with tags.

The DT770 is a fairly bass heavy headphone. I would go with the HP100 for a more neutral presentation.

The scrolling for lists is also being incorporated into new firmware. The long file names showing on the home page can already be scrolled by just dragging a finger over it.

not sure how reliable the review was, and I can't understand very well with some paragraphs with Google Translate. But I think all the players were put into test with the line outs?!! Seems like the reviewer claimed that the line out performance was quite on par with all players accept the AK120 which has an edge over the others due to the dual DAC chips? Was it what the reviewer meant?

I'm not sure how much easier it could be than just copying and pasting individual files onto the DX50, either with the DX50 showing as a drive on your computer or by using a cardreader for your SD card. You can create folders to paste into or just paste directly to either the internal drive or the SD card. No need to use some special program. Perhaps I misunderstand your difficulty, but I have never owned a device that is easier to transfer music from my computer or portable hard drives to player than the DX50. Just basic copy and paste.

He said that in terms of line out X3 and HM601 were bottom tier, DX50 and Ak100 were mid-tier and C4, DX100 and Ak120 were top tier.

in terms of PO the HM601 sounded smooth and "stylish" while the X3 sounded a bit edgy and the DX50 was more detailed than Both and sounded like a "reference" device with majority of the headphones shown there.

also it says that deviations in sound (I don't remember the correct English term) were minimal with DX50 and HM601 and noticeable with X3.

the review concluded that the HM601 is unique sounding DAP (With a dark sound). The X3 while being nice on paper, didn't sound as good as others ad has its shortcomings (I think he reffered to the said "edginess"). as for the DX50, author thinks it is the best value DAP among the competition and feels like a top tier DAP that has been artificially constricted to keep the model"s" with higher price "safe".

P.s. The site that the review is posted on, could be considered something like a Russian version of head-fi with some reputable folk...

Update;

I've sent my DX50 back to China for an exchange. Hopefully my new unit will arrive without the same USB connectivity problems the first unit has. With some added luck, maybe it'll also have a new FW update installed. Anyone heard anything concerning when the next FW update is set to drop ?
