Was it what the reviewer meant?
He said that in terms of line out X3 and HM601 were bottom tier, DX50 and Ak100 were mid-tier and C4, DX100 and Ak120 were top tier.
in terms of PO the HM601 sounded smooth and "stylish" while the X3 sounded a bit edgy and the DX50 was more detailed than Both and sounded like a "reference" device with majority of the headphones shown there.
also it says that deviations in sound (I don't remember the correct English term) were minimal with DX50 and HM601 and noticeable with X3.
the review concluded that the HM601 is unique sounding DAP (With a dark sound). The X3 while being nice on paper, didn't sound as good as others ad has its shortcomings (I think he reffered to the said "edginess"). as for the DX50, author thinks it is the best value DAP among the competition and feels like a top tier DAP that has been artificially constricted to keep the model"s" with higher price "safe".
P.s. The site that the review is posted on, could be considered something like a Russian version of head-fi with some reputable folk...
