Do you own the m100? If so how do they fair after some period of ownership? Do they pair well with the DX50?

Yes, I own the M100's. To me, (although I should warn you first, that I do not own much other quality headphones to do a proper recommendation of what you should be getting) I found the M100's to pair rather well with the DX50. I can't confirm this for you as I have yet to try anything else that might do a better job with the DX50..

Anyways, after owning them for a jolly 5+ months, I can say I have yet to get bored of them. I find them to always bring something new to the table, every time I go for one of those "serious listening sessions" before bedtime, or sometimes even during the mornings or day time. They have this energetic, vibrant sound which allows you to not get bored of them, since it's always up and down, instead of full-on flat, like a pair of neutral headphones. As you probably already know, they are bassy headphones (although I find my C5 amp to tame that down a little), and from that, is where I found it to give the headphones a fun sound.

So in short, if you were one to prefer a punch to your audio, I'd say go for the M100's. I'm not sure what the KEF sound like, but I do know that the Momentums are rather...less exciting? Each to their own, but I wasn't overly impressed with the Momentums, and I'm sure there will be others who will justify that, also.

Do the M100's pair well with the DX50, overall? Yeah, I'd definitely say so. I felt it between the two, where the PRaT and melodic (iPod-like) flow of the DX50 worked exceptionally well with the M100's vibrant-ness. It's kinda like a party in your head:)

I know there will be those who will disagree with me, but that's how I felt about that combination.

Also, if it means anything, I'm calling it quits on buying anymore headphones/DAPs after the M100+DX50+C5 rig, since I feel that it is enough to satisfy me for the months/year to come, and well..I'm feeling rather stable about my journey, and all that I am really lacking is a pair of IEMs for otg purposes.

AND, I have XL pads coming for my M100's to give me all that extra comfort which I don't really need, since I'm pretty happy with its current comfort (although there are heaps of people complaining). Nevertheless, I feel I made the right decision in buying those pads for extra comfort as all the reports from users who bought them, say it improves the comfort drastically, since they are now able to wear it for hours on end, as opposed to a few hours.

Thanks for your comments and that is quite a statement, nothing better than to be satisfied with what you have.

I'll definitively keep your suggestion as a potential buy.

Yeah, that's how I felt about them. I did try some headphones last week, such as the Fischer Audio FA-011 LE, B&O H6 etc, and I just didn't feel it with them, although the FA-011 were impressive, I just didn't feel it as I did with the M100.

As you're already aware, this might just be my imagination and I, but thankfully, it was enough to let me call it quits on searching for another headphone....until someone let's me try the LCD's or some high-end stuff, that is.

It really depends on what you want.

The problem is I don't know what I want, I am looking for a pair that will make me smile when I put them on and listen to music. I am looking at great response across the frequency range, powerful bass, clear mids and highs but not overwhelming, more balance across the range. With my iems I almost get that with the dap except for the highs which I amp now to lower the effect and that seems to work. So I think a pair that would carry the dap output without any alterations might work better for me, if there is any increase I would prefer on the bass instead.

I think M100's might just do it:)

It may not have that super flat response, but it will keep you smiling if it floats your boat, as it did to me.

Then I might just go and pick up a pair, Amazon sells them so if worse come to worse they are going back, I am going to order the KEF 500 at the same time and keep the ones that I'll be happy with. Thanks again for the info, very useful.

My currently working gear using an amp and IEMS, still a brick but a pretty small. If I need few hours then the amp goes away. wink.gif

I've added the OTG components but not currently actively using it. I still want to make myself a desktop OTG solution so that's coming.

Edit: just plugged my external 500 gb backup drive as a quick test and am playing some tunes from it, work marvel so I only need to upgrade to a 2tb drive and I am all set.

I think Lin was asking what I'd been pairing with DX50 that sounded so nice to my ears. Well, now I've taken up the offer to buy them (not without a high price tag mind you) I can tell you. I'm having great results with these Rhapsodio RDB+ v1 Mini, they're the IEM that really won DX50 over for me. I've decided these two pieces of equipment will remain my main rig for sometime. Synergy is the key and these two go very well together.

LoL.... without the AK120 form factor, it is quite predictable for you to pursue something less cumbersome than 901...DX50 delivered at this price range but the SQ is not on par with AK120 (my guess) and nowhere near 901.... I have been playing with DX50 with DB2/PB2 combo... once I have listened to this ibasso trio (even using iem), I no longer want to go solo with the DX50 (unfortunately, still have not figured out a way to actually travel with them... LoL)

i know a lot of portable gear lovers here are waiting for the ZX-1 with great anticipation...

I just transfered money to mp4audio.de for the DX50! About to join the fan club I hope, I will use this DAP with the BA4f cIEMs, they have warm sound signature so the two should pair up nicely.
