... It's built in China... I would think it should read charecters from that Language set

Got my test devices ready for this guy, wish they would have delivered it yesterday. Last time I checked it was tied at customs frown.gif

You're forgetting that Japanese uses Kana too, which isn't a part of the Chinese character set.

This would almost be a deal breaker for me. I don't care if it mangles them into symbols as long as it still shows and plays the track. I'm not renaming a ton of shiit.

Your forgetting that those languages share origins, although I guess it would be a matter of software encodeing, but heck if an American iPod [I Owned one] can display, Spanish, German and Itilian [same origins slight differances]

ACtually hell if my old HIFIMAN hm601 can display Kana that iBasso better

also I used v.04 hifiman Firmware

Yea, but if the Kana aren't in the Chinese character set, and there's no Japanese character set, then origins don't mean much. Besides, I'm pretty sure the encoding would dictate to only use a Chinese or Japanese character set.

It's not that it can't, but if it isn't in the programming now and they decide to never get around to it... You know what I mean?

And Apple has about several billion reasons to make sure it works. Cheaper to just have one design that can read all rather than start loading different software versions in different batches anyway, I'd think.

What i mean is japanese from the ipv3 tags. But if the dx50 couldn't read files with japanese chars in the file name, then it would be a pain to have to rename the files.

Has any DX50 owner try USB OTG with a POWERED 500GB-2TB hard drive? If it works, how many minutes does DX50 need to scan X GB for the first time? Thanks. Please feel free to PM as well.

There are battery-powered portable drive enclosures (e.g., Patriot Gauntlet Node) that can run a 1TB 2.5" drive portably. So OTG 1TB portably is possible.

I understand that OTG may not work with an unpowered hard drive.

agree'd I guess we shall wait and see! Part of the reasons I'm waiting a few months to get one, get them bugs worked out [not that it matter actually. I mean I own HIFIMAN Daps... the UI on them is so lame xD]

I tried this morning on a 500gb (almost full) self powered hdd... I did not dare to scan into the library but just browse using file browser, it took 3 minutes to list out the long list of folders...the color of screen went lighter (from orange to yellow) u can understand the stress that incurred.. Wouldnt recommend it for people.. Usb stick works ok except for large files... High res type files or flac image.. I have not narrowed out if it was caused by the memory stick or the firmware went over the buffer to read from OTG.. Pls manage the expectation on otg

Thanks! I understand that OTG with external HDD is only for hardcore people. I use file browser instead of library mode too.

So OTG w/HDD sucks out battery power of DX50, but DX50 can still play most songs from external HDD, correct? 3 min is not too long I guess, anyone know the CPU spec/speed of DX50? Thanks.

I had no doubt about drives requiring USB power, it's really asking a lot from the dap to power those relatively hungry hdds. I am thinking that even with a self power drive, the interface might be stretching it (speed issues browsing and scanning library). I thought that a USB key solution might get closer to something workable at the expense of sacrificing hd space. I am certainly going to put it to tests, I have hdd of different sizes and power requirements.
