I'd say he is a man of few words, but effective ones. :regular_smile :

Emailed iBasso about the request, let's see what they have to say.

Come one guys, can we have some more reviews? There's only been 3 so far.

Not sure DX50 is stable enough for a fair review, I mean it runs and sounds great, but with the unpredictable volume bug, inaccurate battery readings, freezes, connecting issues, being honest a review might not look to good at this point in time for iBasso, best let them get it as sorted for another month.

That's fair I guess. But I'd like to know more about direct competition anyway, as I believe that most of reviewers out there know, that UI bugs are something common among new DAP-s, and most of them will be solved with next FW's. SQ won't change.

In iBasso's case, SQ does change.

The problem is when you do a review its there forever, that impression will stay on the boards and be searched an read over and over, anything you say in that review may or may not decide a person's purchasing decision. Rather than constantly edit one I personally prefer to do it once. Sound impressions are no problem once my unit is going there's no complaints regarding that area, what the thread needs more than reviews is sound comparisons.

Sounds annoying, do you believe Ibasso will be able to resolve all of them quickly? What does volume bug means, maxing out ?

Thing is, that I listened them both for a very short amount of time (my DX50 went to my friends hands for a while) and when paired with my Heir Audio 8.A my observations are:

- DX50 has smoother highs than AK100

- DX50 is more natural sounding

- DX50 has treble a bit rolled of (compared to the one from AK100 that is)

FW was 1.1.6.

To be honest there were moments when AK100 was a bit sharp (hard to believe, as 8.A is very smooth sopunding CIEM), while nothing like that has happened with DX50. But as I wrote above, my listening was very brief, that's why I'd appreciate if someone could dirtect me to DX50 and AK100 comparison.

The AK100 is temperamental  about headphone pairing due to its high output impedance.   This probably accounts for the harsh treble with the 8.A.  The consensus about the DX50's treble has been that it is harsh.   With a better pairing, the treble on the AK100 will probably be better than the DX50.   The quality of the sound on the AK is better in terms of low distortion and blackness.   The sound on the AK is cleaner and more precise.  With the right pairing, you get clean sound from top to bottom.  However, many people do not like its sound signature.   Too cold and lacking in dynamics.  The strength of the DX will be a much more accessible sound signature.   In addition, it is less finicky about the headphone pairing due to a lower output impedance, and more power allows it to drive headphones that the AK can't.  Plus the DX is much cheaper.  On the other hand, the AK firmware is much more stable and ready to use.  It is slightly more portable and has a more elegant build.  I personally prefer the AK over the DX because of the coherence of the sound from top to bottom - provided you have a good pairing.

On rare occasions when adjusting the volume it goes crazy and gets stuck accelerating either all the way up or down, during this you lose all response from the touch screen and buttons, you need to rip out the headphone jack. A restart is the only cure.

To be fair it's very random and only occurred 3 times so far. IBasso are looking into it. I think they will get sorted Gintaras, just going to take a few firmwares.

That sounds quite scary, I'm a little worried as I like to listen at a lower volume (well I like to think I do).

Well to explain in more detail it doesn't burst straight to maximum volume, luckily you have some warning. To be better worded it sneaks up in bursts about 7 segment at a time and will keep going until maxed out or hits minimum, the player locks up and your music keeps playing.

Excellent read, thank you. Generally speaking You've captured perfectly what was on my mind after my comparison. Yes, AK100 sounded more sterile to me than DX50, which had more relaxed, musical sound signature. Though the amount of details seemed very comparable between those two.

Is there an issue with it remembering what you last listened to when you switch it back on. Mine remembers what I listened to 2 days prior but this changes every so often.
