The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.4 - January 24, 2016 - Page 125

post #1861 of 18427

Does the update take some time?

Mine seems to have stopped at "Find and Check Firmware..." for the last 10mins

...think there might be an issue!

Will a power off mid update brick it??

Ok - powered off and ON again...

Now it says "Cant find firmware image or invalid image...installation aborted"

Rebooting it

back to "Find and Check Firmware..."  seems we're stuck in a loop

OK, pulled the USB plug out, which forced the unit to complain that there was no USB connected...which seems to have been enough to break the loop and continue the update process!

Quality update iBasso :confused:

Sorry for all the imagespam

You don't have to sorry for anything man, that's what we want, more images, more impressions ;) You are doing really great, informative and all. I myself do enjoy your thoughts.

Update went smoothly, repeating the instruction for those who don't read the readme:

Instruction For Firmware upgrade:
1, extract the zip file, and copy the update.img into the DX50;
2, select Settings--->Advanced--->System update (the system update option appears after the DX50 has the update.img inside);
3, click OK to start the firmware update;
4, after the firmware update completed, select Settings--->Advanced--->Factory Reset to reset the DX50;

My personal suggestion to do BEFORE the update:

1. eject the micro SD card

2. delete everything on the internal storage then go to Step 1 above

3. eject the DX50 from USB and disconnect the USB cable (but make sure battery is full or close to full) before starting the update

Quick Findings:

1. Scanned DB again after the update, it completed scanning the same full 64gb sandisk class 10 micro SD in under 9 mins, faster than 12mins or so with the original firmware.

2. ' issue is fixed

3. Album are sorted by album artist now

4. 24/192 playback is normal again

5. Bitrate info now shown in the Info screen

6. no new issue encountered thus far

7. no sonic difference I can discern

Mirrors below for easy reference:

Hiss free from day one - I'm afraid any hiss on the DX50 is a hardware issue.

Edit: This is with two sets of CIEMs as well as the Heir 4.Ai (~20 ohm) and the Tzar 350 (350 ohm, hyper-sensitive and transparent. An ER4S on crack, basically.)

If your 8As were anything like my former pair it would easily pick up any sort of hiss on a DAP. The only other IEMs that I've tried that was close to as sensitive if not more is the 334.

So if I detect any hiss, I should return it, wouldn't you say?

The 8.A is more forgiving than the UM Merlins I had, but yeah, they'll let you know if the source or amp isn't up to snuff.

Afraid so. Shoot Ibasso an email and ask them how they'd like to handle it.

I am absolutely hysterical about hissing and I never understood how anyone could use the Studio V with IEMs. I suspect that this guy was the lead designer on that little brick*.

*Before you light your torches and grab your pitchforks; Yes I know the Studio V has a lot of fans and it's great with some headphones. I just couldn't live with it. Horses for courses and all that... :beerchug:

@SkyBleu, if that is true, I think we can mod the lib on the os, for example to make it louder, change the color theme, etc.
Wow, we need some developer here.. biggrin.gif

Yes, hopefully some modders/developers out there can help us with that:)

When I receive my unit, I shall see what the root directory is like..not for modding purposes, but for changing wallpaper purposes. :D Hopefully it's like the systems of an R4 on the Nintendo DS! Lol

I just had a quick listen and the DX50 seems to drive not only all my IEMs great but drives the mad dogs quite well and not just to deafening levels but the SQ is almost on par with my PB2s (the sound on the PB2 is slightly clearer and brighter, the DX50 is warmish compared to it), so much so I feel I don't really need an amp for them. Mind you this could be because I'm feeling excited and good about this purchase. It powers the HE500s decentish also.

Would love to hack the player so we can have some customizations here wink.gif

I think all we need is wallpaper options, and color scheme options:)

I won't be needing anything else.

I hope I won't have to do so. for a reference though, what volume can you not detect the hiss? I'm quite sensitive to high frequencies (turns out I can hear till about 20khz on a frequency swipe from 1000hz) and I'm getting a bit nervous here :D
