I'm not happy to hear this :(

I hoped in a better consideration from ibasso for dx50 users.

Fortunately I've got a good xfi hd usb to use as usb dac with pc and my surface 2 tablet..

With them you gotta be patient and most of the time it pays off, they don't seem to be working well with pressure in their backs. Just wait a few weeks and watch out for an upgrade.

I'm not 100% sure this is the right forum for this question, so apologies if I'm in the wrong place

Does anybody know if a 2nd hand DX50 still under warranty is indeed still under warranty?

IBasso is pretty good at helping buyers with the product, if you have the warranty card just drop them a line explaining your situation, most likely the service is going to be free but you'll have to foot the shipping bill.

I've got a reply from ibasso.

Hi,
Most of features that the DX90 has will be added into the DX50 new firmware.
The DX50 and the DX90 are not based on Android.

Sincerely
iBasso Audio

ignore the android part, hehe tongue.gif

So what are the features the DX90 has that the DX50 doesn't?  Other than the DAC function (which I have no interest in)?

Not added features but what has been improved. The internal amp is the most notable. You don't need an external portable amp to start with. It is even more powerful than most portable amp around and can drive full-sized headphones better than DX50.

Then there is the Sabre DAC. If one prefers it over the Wolfson DAC on DX50. Also improved UI performance. Otherwise, they have exactly the same features.

THIS is what I was referencing.  I'm fully aware of the differences between the two, hardware-wise.  :deadhorse:

Software wise... after exploring the port over...

icons are different, when you shut down you do not need to click on yes... just press and hold it will say good night to you.

main interface doesnt change much, but there are options in the USB settings where you can switch to charge only, or data or dac.

then there is this DF(Digital Filter) options are Sharp roll-off and Slow Roll Off. but i have not try that option.

this is what i have found. hope it helps..

Speaking of the Wolfson and Sabre DACs in the DX50 and DX90 respectively, do you by how much is the Sabre DAC superior to the Wolfson (ignoring things like personal taste)?

EDIT: ignoring the amp section too.

Instrument separation and imaging is the most noticeable difference between DX50 and DX90. DX90 also have a sense of deeper sound stage where DX50 in comparison feels flat.

But I can't say for certain the actual chips by itself made the difference. It's more likely how they were implemented. I believe given a different implementation the Wolfson DAC can be done to sound similar to what DX90 has with the Dual-Sabre DAC.

The LO is clear as it should be, not like the HO wuchi is a little bit dark or warm, so the fiio e12 amps the clear sound of the LO just bringing a lot of dynamics and an slightly warm signature.

Overall i love much more my dx50 beeing amped

I'm a prospective dx50 customer, so I'm very happy to hear good things about the dx50 & an e12 (which I own). My TMA-1's are 32 ohm as well, and not as hot on the treble so I hope they are a good fit in this regard.

Thanks.  I was hoping it might be more than UI stuff (eye candy).  Maybe something functional like folder to folder play.  And no, I don't want to RockBox, tried it and didn't like it.  I guess we have to be patient and wait and see.

Probably iBasso will release DAC drivers first for 32bit windows like dx90.
