The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

I am interested in the iBasso DX50. I had a Fiio X3 but it stopped charging in the middle of its charge cycle and ended up not working even when plugged in. The only other source that I have is an iPod Nano. So how good is the build quality? Can I use it while it is charging? And finally, can I use the microUSB cable to connect a DAC? I have ordered a C5D DAC/amp and would like to use the external DAC. But if I cannot, then I will hook it up to the line-in of the amp part.

Cant use it while its charging
Build quality is awesome, feels very solid. My battery is still going strong after 3 months of heavy usage.
I dont believe that it supports USB dac. you can use the Coax to an external dac, but not the USB. its only for charging and data transfer.

So as of today as opposed to when the dx50 first came out is it performing any better? Any problems with it still? Had the x3 and had to send it back as it was a lil to slow at things and other little problems

It is wayyyy better than earlier FW's. 1.2.8 (the current one) is the first one that makes the player perform acceptably. THere are still quirks, so if you need a completely bug free player, the DX50 is not there yet. It works fine for me though, so it gets my endorsement. All in all, the quirks are minor at this point

The DX50 works fine while charging. At home I leave it on charge all the time and listen.

Not true. You can use DX50 while charging using a USB wall charger.

I just put 1.2.8 on my DX50. FLAC tracks started locking up the DX50 anywhere between 14-60 seconds into the track.  Put 1.2.7 back on and everything works again. Not exactly the most solid software.

I think you're the first one having this issue on 1.2.8. Did you do a full wipe after installing the firmware?

I followed the instructions in the .zip file. Copy file to device, upgrade, remove file, system reset.

The sonic changes due to FW are the same from the HO and LO, because it is the exact same source signal at that point. Any changes due to the amp will obviously be different, but the source is the same. So it makes no difference.

You now have the option of v2, v5/6, and v8 sound with the functionality of 1.2.8 thanks to Doc2008's FW mashups, so just experiment and find which sound sig you like and you'll be in audio bliss.

Couple of things to try:

Do a reset from the recovery mode
Power off the DX50 Press the "Volume up" button just before pressing the "Power" button and then HOLD THEM SIMULTANEOUSLY The DX50 will now boot into the recovery menu. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu up/down and select "Factory reset". Use the power button to confirm your choice.

Take the card out and reinsert it and tell it to scan the card.
or
Try deleting the ".audio.data" file from the card and force a rescan.

Both HO and LO are affected. But depending on the external amp used, the amount of change can be greater on LO
