Do you have to pay customs duty for it? (UK)

I do hope iBasso adds parametric EQ in the future. That would help a few headphones with FR humps and whatnot. Hope the CPU is powerful enough do do it right even with hi-res tracks.

Mine was shipped via DHL and I didn't have to pay customs. Likely because iBasso marks it down as a USB Soudcard.

What if the price difference was $100? Would that change either of your opinions?

If we are talking right now, pre-firmware update, I would have stuck with the X3 at that price difference.  I am really banking on their update fixing a lot of the issues this player has.  I may even end up just buying another X3 if I am not satisfied after the update.

no it wouldn't. actually for me it IS almost 100$ difference, because I'll have to pay additional customs fee (well, if iBasso doesn't do their usual thing :))

Also Bugs in firmware are solvable problems and I knew already that iBasso solved many problems with DX100 and seem to be willing to do so the same with DX50. And fiio said that the X3 was locked down. iBasso didn't mention anything like that. know what that means? well, rockbox might happen. and that's a pretty good firmware imo.

The dx50 would be worth more than 100 dollars over the x3 because for me the x3 is too warm and lacks detail and layering.

If the new firmware makes the treble tamed down a bit and more neutral... would that be good?

Depends on what kind of sound signature you like.

This was waiting for me when I got home

First impressions:

A lot smaller and lighter than I was expecting. It is nicely put together and feels like a premium product.

Music copied over - no issues on internal or 64GB card

Plays any track I chose including 24bit without any issues

Tagging\images are fine

Not really getting the "brightness" other people are complaining about - seems fine to me - no harshness or sibilance

EQ off

Sound - I am very pleasantly surprised how nice this sounds with my JH13 FP - soundstage is wide, instrument separation is good. Music doesn't quite have the weight of the DX100....but then it a quarter of the price.

If I wasn't comparing to the DX100, this is a nice bit of kit (even then, its still a nice piece of hardware)

Got mine.  Seems to work fine so far and certainly sound better then my ipod.

Flash drive works fine

The DX50 powers up both my WD Passport and my Toshiba Canvio (which is the one I really want to use with the DX50).  The drive does not read in the DX50 though.  Just a blank screen.  Any suggestions or give it up?  Firmware issue?  Does it matter if its formatted NTFS or FAT32?  I believe the drive comes formatted NTFS..

Nice. can't wait till I get mine :)

oh and BTW - where's the firmware iBasoo promised? :D

I like it but I've noticed it doesn't scan all tracks in on the sd card. Most are m4a files, when I browse them manually i can see them but it won't let me play them.

got mine today! happy so far. well built and sound quality is great. very clean and punchy together with Sony MDR7506. UI could use some work (as expected). no problems with tags or stability.

I have a suggestion, give up! biggrin.gif

Seriously though the drive has to be formatted according to the dap file access system, in this case fat32 so you need to format your drive to it before it can be recognized. smily_headphones1.gif

DX50's USB OTG may not supply enough power to your portable USB3 hard drives. You will need an OTG Y cable and a USB battery. I have not seen a suitable OTG Y cable, you may need to DIY or use adapters. RAFA may try something in the near future, you can keep in touch with him or me.

As for hard drive format, FAT32 is your best bet. However, I was under the impression that DX50 can read exFAT (default format of 64GB microSDXC) directly, so it may read NTFS as well. And yes, NTFS is the default format of your hard drives.
