Oh, come on! That FW won't betatest itself, you know ;)

I hope iBasso releases v0/v1 firmware along with new firmware, its always better to have buggy but working firmware along with new firmware, kind of fail safe, which could already exists as part of internal OS. This gets my anticipation much higher than iOS 7!

I've just got it and its charging, but it doesn't pop up as a drive on my macbook. Is this a bug or is my dx50 faulty?

The device should be switched on while connecting to the system, otherwise it will only charge.

Anyone happens to have a dacport lx, dragonfly usb, or meridian explorer and can compare the SQ of them with dx50? I am a lover of vocal. Any input will be greatly appreciated!

It was switched on, looks like it needs to charge for so long before it's recognised. Phew!

LMAO...I know, I know...call me a coward, but I have noticed a trend. First batch was rather buggy, now reports are coming in of considerably happier first-time uses (presumably the second batch). I am thinking the fourth batch with the updated firmware will be the sweet spot biggrin.gif

Received my DX50 earlier today. Second batch shipment to Australia. I can only compare it to brief listening experiences with the AK100 and 120, and I think it's ahead of the AK100 in terms of SQ. When it comes to value and bang for buck, I'll say it leaves both of them for dead. Obvious bugs with the firmware, but not bothering me one bit for now. Just loving this DAP with my Westone 4Rs

Sorry if I'm wrong but if you are on head-fi, be prepared to buggy firmware in daps. We are all beta testers. deal with it :)

I have been waiting to finally see some higher quality players at these kind of prices.

Fiio X3 is $199 (free shipping USA at Amazon)

iBasso DX50 is $260 ($239 with $21 shipping)

For those that have tried both the DX50 and the X3, which do you think is the better player for the money? Is the DX50 worth the extra $60?

Unfortunately, that is true.  My guess is that most of these devices are released 3-6 months before they are actually ready.   Early adopters should really get a discount for beta testing for the manufacturers, but they won't until they stop buying early at full price.

Still, I am finding this dx50 rollout to be the worst i have experienced to date.   So unstable for me.  Crashes, sometimes won't play an entire album, keeps starting from track 1.  Bleh.

In general, i recommend waiting a couple of months before buying this or any other similar device.  Wish i was capable of taking my own advice though.  LOL.

Personally, I felt there were trade offs for each player. To me, it comes down to sound signatures, touch vs non-touch, UI, and button layout.   I just sold my X3 but I wanted to keep both at least until this firmware update was released but I had a buyer and I didnt want to make him wait.  My opinion was that the X3 was a bit like vinyl vs the DX50 being more like a CD in sound reproduction.  The X3 was warmer and thicker in the mids which I like and the DX50 has a bit too much treble energy somewhere in the spectrum, but I think the DX50 has a bit more potential with the use of EQ and firmware updates.

These are my personal opinions.

in terms of hardware it is worth the premium IMO. that's why I made my choice for DX50 and not X3.

What if the price difference was $100? Would that change either of your opinions?
