I see

Will rollback to 1.2.2, I noticed intro every song that I play from "all music" directory has been cut about 1-2 second.

I've noticed the same thing with 1.2.3 but corrected with using the Gapless feature. I can't see a reason not to use gapless now.

This is what I noticed with the roll-off filter set to low (1.2.3beta)

Bass has expended
High somewhat tapered off
Reverbation has now increased; I can hear a slight delayed echo in the high and low bands which I did not before.
Vocals are not as forward as it used to be, more recessed
Bass is thunderous, impact full : most likely the only true enjoyment
Soundstage seems to have broaden (might be because now the range is somewhat wider)

Filter set to fast roll-off (1.2.2)

Bass is more neutral, same level than the rest of the frequency range
Vocals are more forward, feels like they are closer to you
Soundstage is tighter, not as wide (narrower frequency band)

I truly hope they will allow us to set it ourselves according to our preferences.

Between the two I prefer 1.2.beta3 than 1.2.2 but truly miss the vocals on 1.2.2

This is where a WM8741 implementation would have been nice:

Just find that I want to use Google Music All Access, which I subscribe to, way too much. I save a lot of money over the files for this. I have decided I only want to buy new albums on vinyl, with a few exceptions in the genre of jazz. Everything else, I will just use the All Access for, so I am going to sell it and pick up a Fiio E18, then maybe the Sony ZX1 down the line. I mainly was looking for a good player to pair with the UM Merlins I am impatiently awaiting any way, and I have heard this guy isn't a great pairing any way (output impedance is a touch higher than advertised, and the Merlins have a tough impedance curve - or so they say).

 Valid point, the Sony ZX1 sounds like a very fine dap, it's coming up in December in Japan I gather. Let us know when you get it how you truly feel about it, might want to pick one too, how that I have no clue it won't be available in the US for a long time, maybe even ever.

Why do I torture myself unintentionally like this; I got an email from Spotify to check a tune on their site so here I go getting all excited, plug my HD600 on my older iPad 3rd Gen and guess what. It sounds better than anything I tried so far including my DX50, why the hell is that? Now I feel cheated, all that time I thought the Cirrus chip was ok, I guess it pairs pretty well with the HD600. I think I got to stop trying things, I am going to suffer from the Head-Fi search for the impossible SQ syndrome

I think you are quite right but I would say that because the roll off is slower, that means the frequency curve in the high and low bands taper off over a longer frequency range. That has the effect of letting higher and lower frequencies pass through but in an attenuated way because we are more attune to lower frequencies, we find it to be louder. In fact when you record music, you will output the lows higher than the highs to give it some impact. So now imagine that you are adding to the lower band letting the lower booming frequencies getting through, that is what we are experiencing. The highs as such do not sound as dramatic due to the higher range used most exclusively by the vocals, female specifically. Again remember that it tapers off in the high range as well so this is what we are experiencing. Play some classical music and then you might experience something totally different because classical instruments go through a wider frequency range from the drums, Cellos to violins and clarinettes. Using this music would be a better gauge of the soundstage changes.

i think this kind of slow roll off suits some kind of music like clasical/acoustic, the increase in soundstage and impactful of bass will give a better enjoyment.
of course, the best way to do is just let us select which kind of roll off we want in the menu!
