The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Depends on You rig setup and music and ears/brain etc.
NDFFF has more "sparkly-harsh" highs and tad more bass quantity. SU 1.3.3 /1.4 are more neutral and "forgiving" regarding highs.

About that "hidden settings menu" with SU FW:
Sound Unlocked has "Hidden" bootup menu. To access it You must:

1) Turn OFF DX50
2) Slide HOLD button to ON/LOCKED position
3) Turn ON DX50 while hold button is still ON/LOCKED position
4) You will lauch into bootup menu where You can select different settings. Choose what You prefer.
I recommend to start with FLAC/irr off/cpu default (for large airy soundstage) or FLAC/irr on/cpu 312 (for more intimate/foward soundstage)
5) Slide hold button to OFF position and player will return into UI using settings You selected. They will stay regardless restart/turn on-off until You change them.

Have fun!

Got some new music for the holiday and I have been listening all day at work.  DX50>RSA Intruder>Grado RS1i (balanced).

Everything sounded absolutely wonderful all day.  The DX50 and Intruder package is well worth the price of admission.  The depth of the bass extends as far as you would like it to go, and it is tight.  And even though the Grado RS1i is one of the brighter phones, the entire day my ears were not fatigued at all.

The music I listened to today was Howlin Rain - The Russian Wilds, and Gov't Mule - Dark Side of the Mule Deluxe edition.  There was also Biffy Clyro - Puzzle thrown in there for good measure.

But I have to say the Howlin Rain disc is phenomenal.  If you like good ole rock and you haven't heard Howlin Rain, please take some time to look into them.

Cheers and enjoy your DX50!

The firmware with the settings everyone is raving about would be Sound Unlocked.

So I should rich docs and get sound unlocked....is there that big of a difference?

The sound WAY different. My favorite is SU 1.4, but I would try 1.33 as well and compare it to DOC's firmware. That way you can decide for yourself.

I am fortunate enough to have received the DX50 and the d-zero mk2 for Christmas. I would like to connect them both together. I am using an external hard drive as a source for the DX50, but I want to maximize the use of these units. Can I send a digital output to the d-zero from the DX50 to use both its DAC chips rather than the single in the DX50? How would I do this?

Thanks!

Having owned the DX50 twice now...I am proud to declare that the DX50 latest batch (3rd?) continues to exhibit the same static electricity problems.  My screen got fried yesterday and is now brighter in some parts and darker in others.  Not to mention that I have what seems to be a line of dead pixels.

Sigh.

Just curious what do you mean by "fried"?

I have same batch and no static electricity problems, nor anything wrong with screen. I think You must be having bad luck. Send it to iBasso for guarantee.
If it already was, then they probably couldn`t identify the cause of problem correctly.

Well I'm having a new problem.  I've gone and gotten a microsd card and formatted to fat32.  i loaded up some music and inserted into my dx50 and BAM, it scanned, I  see the files, but I cannot play them.  I select a track to play and it jumps back to the now playing screen with no music, just blank.  Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?

Update: I formatted a third time with card directly in laptop and placed music on this card directly from laptop and now it works....ok now back to your regularly scheduled programming

I thought I could escape the problem too...3rd batch? What could go wrong right

.  Yup, until I removed the silicone cover for 3 seconds.  It was literally Apocalypse Now for the DX50.  haha it's kind of funny and immensely sad at the same time.

I have removed silicon like 100 times already and opened my DX50 twice (testing different capacitors atm) - absolutely NO problems. Like I said - You are having bad luck.

Yes, some ppl are having problems with add/remove music via USB cable. The reason could be bad quality cable (yes, I have experienced that problem using random cable with DX50) or not doing "safely remove" before removing cable. Thing I have also noticed - transfer speed is much slower with cable. Putting mSD directly to PC/Laptop card reader or adapter makes it much faster.
One important thing more - after adding/removing music make sure to do "rescan library".

Do the DOC's firmaware need to be installed as an original update? Via "advanced/update"?

I'm currently running the stock 1.6.0.

Install it as any other official update. Copy .img to DX50 internal memory and use advanced >system update.

Perhaps I got a serious lemon...at any rate, the hardware failure is quite disappointing.  I hope iBasso responds quickly and either fixes it or gets me a new unit.
