Still if you prefer the 1.2.8 as more detailed compared to DOC2008 mods I highly suggest that you try Sound Unlocked 1.2.1 by Dmitry https://yadi.sk/d/Z4Xg0f7BWJUxJ

It should be flashed as any usual update.

Also given your preference DX50 MEGA SOUND EXPLOSION SECOND EDITION by DOC would be good for you I guess https://mega.co.nz/#!T0QnCaCR!W5baLFm7SdaPFbMweKImFl_gG5zOq73JaKup289IKxU

Give us some feedback once you try these two - I hope you like them!

I just received my DX50 in the mail today, which I purchased from another Head-Fi member.  I played around with firmware v1.2.8, which sounded pretty good to me, but I didn't really have anything to compare it to.  I was planning to upgrade to v1.5.0 from the iBasso site, but their site is down.  I guess someone forgot to pay their bill.  In any case, I decided to give Sound Unlocked v1.2.1 a try based on comments from other owners on a Russian forum, and your suggestion.  I found the sound and detail was similar to v1.2.8, which I liked, and it has just the right amount of bass.  I'm using ATH-M50x cans with it.

I'll do more testing after my Q701s arrive in the mail, but so far I like what I hear.

I had upgraded to 1.5.0, but had a few problems with it. Some of my tracks would have a gap (though it's set for gapless). Took several tries to get my computer to recgonize it (plug in, unplug, replug). And the sound quality wasn't doing it for me. I went back to 1.2.8 and have no problems since.

And the iBasso site is down for me as well. (Central USA). Hopefully it will be back up soon. (Thank goodness for mirror links on the first page so I could get the firmware I needed.)

You do a factory reset?

Yes I did. Always make sure to closely follow instructions on equipment like this.

Just making sure.  Some people don't read so well.

Sometimes when I connect my DX50 to laptop it may take 1-2 minutes (literally) to be seen. It's rather random though, sometimes it may only take 10 seconds. I often wonder if people don't allow enough time.

Not pointing at you, just logging it here for future readers.

I tend to plug mine in and just let it sit there until it's recognized. I've become patient with it.

Sound Unlocked have "hidden" settings. Just switch Hold to On while rebooting a player. You can set "Lossless only" mode to achieve more clear sound for lossless formats. After setting  "Lossless only"  just switch Hold to Off.

BTW, in this release was implemented import of local playlists to mango :)

Cool.... I'll give that a try.  All I listen to is FLAC.

Just enabled lossless only.  What's the other option?  Irr Bandwidth?

Another sound option. When "On" - a sound is more detailed.

Awesome.... I've played a couple of tracks so far, and I'm noticing better separation with instruments and voices.  The two songs I've listened to so far are Angus and Julia Stone - Silver Coins and Department of Eagles - Too Little Too Late (Vinyl).  In Silver Coins, I can hear Julia's voice in the background more clearly.  It doesn't get buried by Angus' voice.  In Too Little Too Late I can hear better separation of instruments and Daniel Rossen's voice.

I do like the overall clarity with this firmware, but keep in mind this is the first firmware I've tried.  I'll prolly stick with this one, because my ears like what they hear, unless someone recommends something better.  Great job Dmitry.  I look forward to your future releases.

This is the 2nd time their site has done this.  Ooooopppps.

As for 1.5.0, I really like it.  You might give it a try after the firmware is available again.

So many FW`s and sound options.... making my head dizzy. Is there simple guide/mod/option how to achieve least processed sound on both HO/LO? When lossless only is enabled, then it should be least processed? Or Irr Bandwidth is even less processed? What are actual differences between those? I`m using FLAC only and EQ is always off. Want to rely only on DAC chip + opamps without software processing it (or least processing).

I think I'm going to stick with Dmitry's firmware for now.  It's based on v1.5.0.  Thanks for the suggestion though.  I'm sure I'll get around to it at some point.
