Where'd u get the the Mun IC, if you don't mind me asking?

Cheers!

Thanks.  From eBay.  A maker/seller called:  onest11  based in England.  Got his name here, I think from H20Fidelity (?).  Damn thing was pricey, $68 bucks US, but works very well.  Here's a current link to his stuff  http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid=p2047675.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.XMUNDORF+Silver%2FGold+jack+to+jack+stereo+cable&_nkw=MUNDORF+Silver%2FGold+jack+to+jack+stereo+cable&_sacat=0&_from=R40

I haven't spoken to Onest for quite a while however he makes copper, silver plated and pure silver cables too. Often sending  a msg allows you to place an order as he doesn't always list everything he has making to order. I personally think his pure silver cable sounds exceptional.

The one I use is 99% silver/1% gold.  What interested me was the shorter plug covers- because the longer ones would cover the controls of my C5/DX50.  I would have gone custom with him, but at the time I ordered he had what I wanted (and it's still available according to the link I posted).  Pricey, but good.  I had a $24 silver-plated cable, and the Mundorf "seems" better.

Yes, 99% silver 1% gold. We ran some tests next to another mini to mini cable made by Audio Minor comparing their pure silver cables. Everyone agreed Onest was not only a little bit but much better.

Audio Minors cables despite labeled Cryo treated were quite bassy and didn't really resemble anything like silver at all.  :o Though Onest silver cable immediately increased soundstage and gave the entire presentation more air and a specific tone to the music, a shimmer of essence if you will. I believe the owner of that  Audio Minor cable sold it straight away replacing it with Onest.

Anyway, I'm still going strong with DX50 > JDS C421 > MDR-V6.

I certainly hear a difference with mine over the silver-plated ones I was using.  I've got a nice solid chain going from DX50 to C5 which leads to a nice sound from my Dunu 1000s.  The Dunus haven't had the issue you had of the cable getting stiff.  I walk with them daily, and they are still quite flexible.  And give me minimal microphonics, as opposed to my custom Ted's cable on my TF10s, which sounds great as long as I'm not moving.

AND the interconnect looks cool, too.  Which, of course, is all-important.  Gotta have the cool factor.

My rig looks very much like yours as C5 and C421 are the same size. I had them both on demo but took C421 despite it's higher output impedance.

Let me grab a shot now I have better light.

C5 replaced yours according to the JDS Labs website.  If yours is as good as mine, and I'm sure it is, you are getting good sound out of your DX50.  I think the size is ok, it's just a bit thicker and heavier, but a reasonable trade-off.  It's certainly bigger than my Colorfly C3, but the usability and sound are both better.  And I don't like  a pocket carry as I find that it puts too much stress on the iem jack, so pouch-carrying is fine with me.

For those that have DX50 and 90, can you tell me if the 90 is better or just different?  I know DX50 has the Wolfson 8740 that is in the AK100 and the 120, but the DX90 has the ES9018K2M.  I didn't think the amp section of the DX90 was that great as the LO clearly demonstrates it.  I know Wolfsons are generally warmer and DX90 is cold, and curious how the DX50 fares.

Most people including myself always pair DX50 with an amp. I only pair DX90 with an amp when I'm at home and using my T1. As far as LO goes, I say DX90 is better than DX50 in terms of detail retrieval.

lol...yeah, I purchased the DX50 to use without an amp, but can't help myself in plugging one in.

How do you like the O2 with the DX90?

Listening to the DX50 --> O2 --> Beyer DT880 (250 ohm) right now.  Sounding great indeed!!!

Cheers!

Yes, it is better (in terms of detail retrieval, soundstage) and different (ESS chips are not warm by all means).

Digital filter shouldn't ACTUALLY work on the DX50… I think that DOC2008's FW is based on a port from the DX90 2.0.5 FW, in which the feature DOES work as it's based on the ESS chip.

Just enjoy the FW, if the sound sig is to your liking, that's what really matters IMHO:smile:
