You have to install any my custom firmware including CWM recovery. Then you have to install the Rockbox via CWM.

If my FW is based on DX90 FW, you have to install the following version of RB: http://yadi.sk/d/5ow1BkyXQoaC9

Hopefully this week we'll see the release of the new firmware for DX50 by Ibasso!

Yup apparently so. Given the email exchanges as posted by fellow head-fiers, there should be an anticipated firmware release this week for DX50.

I seem to remember when 1.2.8 was released I had to download it from another source, can't remember whether it was from someone on here or not. It didn't show up on the iBasso website for another couple of weeks after then.

  • 2) use stock recovery to flash any update.img"

In the files you downloaded to put RockBox ON your DX50 there is a file called "stock_recovery.zip."  You need to put that back into your device

so that you can then reinstall the stock firmware (1.2.8).  I took a micro sd card, took everything off of it, put the recovery zip on it, and plugged the

card into the DX50.  Then I (think I) rebooted and fussed with the touchscreen until I got it to scroll to the place where I could open the zip from the external card.

That was the hardest part, as the touchscreen was fussy and it was hard to get it to the right place.  Once you accomplish this the device reboots and now you have

a stock recovery again (to install RockBox you have to first install a non-stock recovery).  Then you make sure the device is on, plug it into your computer using a USB cord,

place the firmware .img in the base of the machine, and run update as normal.   Or, I suppose, you could erase the now-used zip and replace it with the img and update that way using the micro card) if you can't get the computer to see the DX50.  .

It took a lot of fiddling and some swearing to get it to work, but it did.  I use a Mac, but it should be the same on a PC, especially since I used the zip on a micro card and not the computer to do this.

Thanks for taking time to post instructions, but unfortunately still no luck.

I'm not exactly sure how to install the recovery zip. I've been trying through recovery:

So I go to 'apply update from SDcard', then this pops up:

This is how my SD card was looking at the time:

So frustrating!

It's been a while since I did this.  I just remember pulling the stock_recovery zip from its RockBox folder on my desktop and dragging it into a clean micro sd card.  Then plugging the card in and rebooting.  Make sure after you do so that you scroll and move through the pages of type on the DX50 until you get to the place where you can install the zip from the card.  You are NOT installing an img, which is what you would do to update firmware.  Make sure it tells you that you are installing the zip from the card.  It will take you going through 2-3 pages on the screen to get to that point (as I recall, and that was the hard part)

You have to get the recovery zip in place and installed before you can do anything else.  If you have not done so, the firmware can't be installed.

AFTER you get the recovery zip installed, then it will reboot and will need a firmware installed (it will not have one). At that point you can install the img.

Remember that first comes the zip, and after that the img.  From your screenshot, it's telling you it can't find the img.  I don't think you've gotten to the place where you can install the zip yet.  Keep trying, go slow, clean the screen (I had problems getting from one screen to the next, it kept kicking me out) so it lets you finger scroll and press easily to navigate.

Am I supposed to install the stock recovery zip in my current recovery or is it somewhere in the Rockbox that I can't find? I only have the three options in recovery and nothing is working there and it isn't scrollable.

Well, I don't really know what you are doing.  Like I said, when you installed RB you had to first install its own custom recovery, overwriting the stock one.  If you have RB on your device, you already did that.  To remove it, you need to reinstall the stock recovery.  That's the stock_recovery zip in the folder that you downloaded to your computer in order to install RB in the first place (it had a bunch of files in it).  You put that zip on a card and reboot and you SHOULD get a bunch of prompts as to what to do.  Most of them are negative prompts, I had to navigate to the 2nd or 3rd  page to get to the "install from external sd card" before I could do so.  You choose to install that zip from your sd card.  Once you do, it will reboot and then you can move on to reinstalling the firmware.  If you can't find joy here, go to the RockBox forum http://www.head-fi.org/t/709855/ibasso-dx50-rockbox-finally-here-latest-update-2014-03-25 and ask for help there.

I think that's the problem. I wasn't receiving any prompts once I booted up with the stock recovery on my SD card. Anyways I booted up my old laptop with Vista and was able to finally install the drivers to use the RKbatchtool and success! Thanks for help once again.

Well, congrats!!  Now don't put RB back on.    That's where I am at.  Took so much effort to get it off the DX50 that I have no desire EVER to put it back on when I have the whim to try it again.

no news regarding new firmware?
I just hope they're using the time to do three important things:

(1) Testing
(2) Testing
(3) Testing

I don't mind waiting, but I do mind wasting my time on yet another FW release without proper gapless support.
