Yep, it's the only one I can find too and it's definitely more than I'd want to spend on a cable.

True... But when most sources don't require this level of discipline to work properly, then this should be unnecessary and not required to enjoy your purchase. And clearly iBasso agree. Otherwise they did not have to go to the trouble of requesting me to sell them one of my 64Gb MicroSD cards loaded with files that are causing these slow or incomplete scans. To quote them...

Hi,
Thank you very much for sending the card to me. We will fix all the problems on the following firmware.
Please let me know the cost in USD. I am going to send you a paypal payment.
Have a good weekend.

Best Regards,
iBasso Audio

I wasn't trying to implicate that you have to be a slave to this device and as far as me converting/re-ripping all my music was mainly for the purpose of separating myself from ALAC and apple and using a more universal codec. Also, I wasn't confident that Apple's tagging system would be completely compatible with the iBasso device; maybe it would have been, but I just wanted to take extra precaution so that I made sure that I had an enjoyable experience with this player. I only spent about an hour or so a day the week prior to receiving my unit and it wasn't a painful process.

Now I also am a true believer in 'Garbage in - Garbage out' and that is with any device or method. Your going to receive more benefits with more effort you put into something. I read all the horror stories about the DX50 and watched both youtube videos of DigitalFreak totally trashing this device (2 units he received) and bad experiences with other "boutique" DAP's. I find it hard to believe that he received 2 lemons (maybe he did). I just felt maybe these folks would have had better experiences with a little more precaution and attention to detail, which the little extra effort would far out weigh the stress, headaches, hassle, and the total desire to take a hammer to the darn thing (I recall a lot of sense defeat to people's experience with this device and other devices. Could they have saved themselves these horrible feelings, probably, yes.

Obviously, iBasso does not have the budget or resources as Apple or maybe even iRiver. So yeah, iBasso is going to be a little more buggy or maybe people don't have the funds or desire to purchase a $600-1300 DAP.

My purpose of my post was to describe my process of preparing to receive my DX50 and to express that I've had a flawless experience with the dx50 (software and hardware wise) and hopes that my advice (for whoever wants to take it) may help them have an enjoyable experience as I have. And I'm not saying that my way is 'Gold' and maybe I will encounter problems; that is yet to be seen. I just wanted to explain my experience and maybe save others from a lot of grief.

As far as earlier firmware from iBasso, I can't comment because I haven't had the experience and maybe it was at the fault of iBasso for releasing buggy code. And as far as iBasso purchasing Jpfe8851's microSD card, I don't think they were necessarily accepting or admitting fault, but rather taking extra measures to improve future firmware releases and maybe they will discover a mistake from it. That just further shows that I bought a product from a company that cares and wants to make sure each customer is satisfied with their purchase and to solidify their confidence in iBasso and I highly commend them for that. Kinda reminds me of V-moda for hearing the complaints of m-100 owners (about stock earpads) here on head-fi and releasing an XL version, that's a company that cares and why I will continue to purchase products from both companies.

Anyways my point was basically to help others enjoy their DX50 DAP by just using a little extra effort. Maybe I went overboard with my process, but I can tell you that I am sitting here listening to my DX50 as I write this post and all my music is there and I am totally enjoying this little device.

Thanks iBasso!

It's not worth the price. I tried it and can't really find anything significant gain be it SQ or aesthetics. The connectors were huge and it does not look good on my setup

DrGonzo, DX50 is nice sounding player, very crisp and detailed, standalone it lacks a bit analogue feel but is detail monster and very musical DAP still, one of better one i heard and not too far from famous RWAK.

Throw in a good amplifier via Line Out and DX50 becomes scary good and goes very close to the best.As such DX50 is huge bargain for the price if you can tolerate some primitivism, some reported bugs and etc... But since i use DX50 for a week and more now i find no issues. All it takes is to read HeadFi manual, avoid complete scan and not do things that would be not necessary and would bug player. Till now i am very happy. The only small complain i have is some irk second or two delay when swap playing albums or songs, hard buttons are good but still not immediate.

Overall you will not believe it when you hear DX50 paired with a good amp, blows your socks away. biggrin.gif

Awesome, thanks. I've also found an ebay seller who will do customer length cables so I'll have to look into both!

You really shouldn't have bought this onto this thread. I haven't bothered posting my final impressions video in here because this is an appreciation thread and didn't want to come across as trolling this thread like other certain users have been guilty of doing on other appreciation threads. To answer your question, whether you believe it or not bares no merit. The honest fact of the matter is my experience with not one but two units is my detailed experience with the player and the result of me trying my best to put a happy face on my experience resulting in various evenings of troubleshooting and a total of an added month of waiting for a replacement unit to be delivered only to experience more countless evenings of me troubleshooting in an attempt to get this player working well enough so as to enjoy it. At the beginning of my impressions video I state quite clearly I don't like giving out negative reviews, matter of fact I hate giving out negative reviews. I try to work with a product in usch a way so even if I don't like a product I can present a review with some positives. As it was no matter what I did both units were flawed to the point it made it a huge chore for me to simply play music. The idea of buying an MP3 player is to make it more convenient to listen to ones music not make it a chore just to get it to somewhat work in order to listen to music.

Did I post the video of the DX50 in a biased manner, which a certain somebody has accused me of, in order to gain notoriety and because I'm a fan boy of another product? When the DX50 was first announced I was present on this thread almost everyday from day one posting away about the possibilities and excited to one day soon have a DX50. I was so excited i went out and ordered an extra 64GB micro SD card, a OTG cable and even a 128 GB USB memory stick so as to enjoy the DX50 in all its glory. When my shipping notice was sent I even contemplated selling my Studio V thinking why bother having 2 players when the DX50 would deliver everything I needed. Thankfully I never threw it up on the FS forums. Since I posted my rant video concerning both the DX50 and Studio V I've had to delete some rather insulting and ignorant posts from the YT video rant thread and just recently was accused of being biased on my final DX50 impressions video thread.

These insulting comments and the piss poor attitudes of certain people have made me decide to not post my DX50 impressions video on here so as to avoid any further negative experiences and you come along and have to post your two cents concerning my intentions in a off the cuff fashion all because I was truthful in my negative experience with the DX50. I posted my impressions on my YT channel and on a separate thread created on head-fi as a means of a resource for people who were contemplating buying a DX50. I wasn't out to gain notoriety nor was I out to trash iBasso for the simple joy of trashing a company or a product. Unlike others I have nothing to gain by disliking a certain product nor do I associate my personal character with any product closely enough to feel insulted when someone likes or dislikes something I own or choose not to own. As such I wish people would stop feeling so put out by my findings that they feel its their duty to become keyboard warriors and insult me on my YT thread and through veiled comments on here. If iBasso feels my final impressions are unjustified they're more then welcome to email me and discuss the situation. All they have to do is address the issues I've described and send me another unit that worked the way it was meant to work and i would be only to happy to change my video and add an update stating my mind has been changed.

The Dx50 has so much trouble? I've tried it before buying and I was really impressed about its SQ and built quality. I've found it not so responsive but I tought that with future firmware updates the problem would have been resolved. So what about now? It's still buggy or the firmware permits to use it easily?

The only feature that interest me is to select a track and press "play" lol

My apologies to a DigitalFreak for singling him out and in no way was I implying that you are a fanboy. No hard feelings towards you or your opinion. However in MOST complaints (excluding DF) does anyone explain how they tried resolving their issues by just simply cleaning their files. I think in most cases users just accept defeat and blame iBasso.

My advice is just do a simple search in windows explorer and make sure there are no unnecessary files other than music and jpegs.

No hard feelings, just trying to help others enjoy their investment and I apologize to anyone that has been offended and especially to DigitalFreak for mentioning his YouTube post.

Howlin Fester recommended Album Art Exchange, which I've used with much success or you could just try Google search.

several advices i would have for dx50 buyers.

first and foremost, please read manual posted on headfi, will save you time and nerves.

second, keep it simple, use only music files and no jpg, log, txt, cue and other files.

third, do not mess with FW and scan, use folder look for playback, press folder you want and dx50 will spend one sec on scan particular folder, simple and problem free.

do not mess with FW, keep updates straight, do not roll back updates unless absolutely needed. And most important, after making FW update do not forget to reset dx50 to factory settings and then connect player to PC and delete update patch from the root manually.

all this will help you avoid most bugs and will save you time on reading negative rants, rather you will just have more time to enjoy music.

NB: as a user of Apple gadgets i found it this way works best because even apple can be buggy if you mess around.

Is there a actual manual posted here on head-fi or are you referring to the FAQ post?

BTW, adding one JPEG per folder isn't going to complicate things, IMO.

Thanks for posting the advice. These forums are always so useful and helpful.

Gonzo, i do not remember the link and away from my Mac where link was saved, just scroll back this thread since the link to manual was posted several times.
Also remember when updating firmware, after you done, restart player, reset to factory settings, then connect to PC and delete update parch, dx50 does not delete patch automatically like ak100 so if you do not do it manually you may run into problem later.

as regards jpg i am not sure but i do not want to mess around without reason especially when dx50 cannot read and show images anyway unless image embeded into music file.
