The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.5.0 - Page 399

Anyone know if there is a way to save our playlists when updating to a new firmware?  The last time I updated I lost my playlists and had to redo it all over again and I really don't want to have to do it again.

I am using the RSA 71A Blackbird. Fantastic match up. Great bite to the music and very fine layering. Very, very transparent.

I would love to know this too as well as how to rename playlists

After updating to 1.2.3, i have noticed my DX50 had a clicking sound (or 2 quick clicks) when i switch it off or on. *I always thought it was my desktop motherboard making that sound*

Any idea why the DX50 elicit such sounds? Did anyone else had similar experience?

I have update the FAQ accordingly.

Thanks for the info, I will definitively update to the official release but with what I hear now, totally thrilled. atsmile.gif

It seems that iBasso have turned off attenuation of the DAC signal with 1.2.3beta. That is technically a good thing to do and it explains the increased dynamic range.

Query: have they otherwise increased treble directly, activated DAC pre-ringing, or done some other further modification to boost treble performance? I have no idea. The increased treble snap is driving increased perception of soundstage width and overall space. I am not entirely in love with that particular change. If they have done something to enhance the treble other than not attenuating the DAC, I hope that they will roll that back as it's really the audio equivalent of a parlor trick rather than an actual increase in sound quality.

The player performance is otherwise greatly improved. The DX50 is actually easy to turn on now! Media scanning when I browse is almost instantaneous. Bravo on both counts. I would hate therefore to go back to 1.2.2 just on that basis.

I am certainly going to stick with 1.2.3beta for now so I can see what further refinements may be instituted with the official release on a direct comparison.

They have full control over the wm8740 DAC so they can effect the digital de-emphasis feature and the roll-off function. So what I can seem to sense is they have switched the DAC to slow roll-off enlarging the analog audio band. I am not sure about the digital de-emphasis feature though, that's a bit harder to gauge, you have to remember that the chip has digital filtering features. I think those firmware programmers are playing with the dac for the beta version. That means they may set it back the way it was prior to 1.2.3 beta.

Okay, I lied. I just switched back to 1.2.2. Why not - it's easy to go back and forth.

I left the Pico Power plugged in and turned on and then listened to the exact same song in from 1.2.3beta in 1.2.2. I am not convinced that there is actually any change of volume. If there is, it isn't much.

I am not going to jump to conclusions as to "better". I will only say that there is a significant difference between the sound signature of 1.2.2 and 1.2.3beta and it obviously centers around the increased treble performance of the latter although I am not sure what exact mechanism is at work. More generally 1.2.3beta sounds more dynamic while 1.2.2 sounds smoother and more organic.

Interesting... I await the final version of 1.2.3 with an open curious mind.

This makes sense. Thanks.

Well, I am enjoying being back at 1.2.2. I am feeling the music again...
