I am back in business, and it works great. The sound changed again, it is brighter and extremely detailed. The bass is thunderous. God I love the sound. I can't believe that a simple firmware can tune the sound like this. I have no problems so far and it plays beautifully. Who wants to join?

It is loud on the line out, wow have they touched it? I am excited again!

I took my amp out of the stack, it is just so loud, no need to drive the headphones.

By the way if you do a factory reset from the recovery mode screen, the update.img file gets automatically deleted and not through the dap factory reset menu. Something to keep in mind so you won't have to worry about deleting the file. Last, make sure you let the scanning job do its complete scan, else you'll have some weird behavior and missing file references from the dap database.

Ok I am off, good luck if you go ahead and try the beta, but so far I find no differences in bad behaviors compared to 1.2.2 so it has to be an improvement. I certainly like the sound.

Are you driving the headphones from the lineout or the headphone out?

I agree that the beta works really well. Hopefully with the coming updates they can add a working EQ setting.

Yes but again I am using my momentum, my HD600 is on it's way should have them tomorrow to try. They have changed the line out, I used to crank the volume to 230 before I could get to a decent level, now 210 and it feels like 240.

Edit: looks like you already checked the EQ.

My DX50 is also hanging and, for some reason, it doesn't show the recovery menu.  What are the menu items (I think its functional, just not displaying the menu items).  There are three choices right?  I think the first one is just restart if I recall.  What are the other two?   Is the second selection "reset" and the third "reinstall firmware from card"?

Follow my instructions above and you will clear everything down to a working dap.

Yes, but my display is blank.  Am navigating blind.  What are the menu selections (in order of appearance)?  Thanks in advance!

You got to have a non-blank menu selection so do the recovery mode selection until you get one. Power on and volume + for at least 4 seconds. It should move to a dos like menu selection, that is a hardware reset not a software one.

Updated. Took a couple of minutes. Then put in a almost full 32gb with WAV and it media scanned in about 4 minutes and was ready to play.

Hi guys. This is my first post, but I've been reading Head Fi for quite a long time.

If you experiencing problems with 1.2.3 I suggest you to reinstall software. After first installation my DX50 freezed few times when I was changing the volume. Also some yellow dots showed in right side of the screen, it looked like some artifacts from recovery menu. So I installed 1.2.2 once again and then updated to 1.2.3. Now it is really stable and I think faster, smoother in menu.

In my opinion sound do changed. It is brighter, less warm I think, the bass is tighter. Difference is quite significant, but not night and day. It sounds much better for me now.
I'm using DX50 with JDSLabs C5  and mainly with Etymotic HF3- I think that line out also changed.

I have a 3rd batch DX50. This is the first time I've commented in this thread but I've been following it since the beginning. I was seemingly stable with 1.2.2 since it came out, but after adding a few songs to my DX50 and heading out to work the thing froze up while driving and I found it had deleted the playlists I had made on it and froze up a few more times. I factory reset it and it was working ok again.

The really annoying this is I have never had it complete scanning my sd cards. I have 3 that I've tried. A really old 8GB sandisk, a 32GB that I've used with my Cowon J3 with no problems, and a 64GB sandisk, which has never really worked with the DX50 (I've tried FAT32 and exFAT; FAT32 seemed to work better but would always end up freezing at some point). So I mostly use the FAT32 formatted 32GB one which is a lexmark. I say it's never completed a full media scan on any of these cards and I usually end up having to go directory to directory to manually scan the files in. To say the least this player has been a mix of frustration and joy. I'm just glad this isn't my primary means of listening to music, otherwise I would have sent it back for a replacement earlier.

Anyways, I installed the 1.2.3 beta and for the first time ever it completed scanning my card completely (32GB FAT32). I've had it running all music on random for a couple hours and it hasn't frozen up yet. So far so good. I'll try the 64GB Sandisk again later. Hopefully that one works too! I'm not an expert on describing how it sounds to me from version to version but all I can say is that the DX50 sounds better than my J3. In terms of UI and features obviously the J3 still wins (also insane battery life) but the sound of the DX50 is too good to go back. BTW I'm using the DreamEarz aud-5x, which I've had for over a year. Prior to this I was using a Cowon J3+FiiO E17. I don't use the E17 with the DX50 currently.
