I've always been a huge fan of Sony MDR-V6 usually paring them with > Studio V > JDS C421. Its a rather bright detailed pairing however because of the Studio's signature can sound a little thin. Very detailed though maybe lacking some resolution. (but very crisp and clean). I was mucking around this afternoon (as we do)  pairing Sony MDR-V6 > JDS C421 (OP2227) > DX50 > pure silver interconnect. For my standards even owning DT880 and SHR940 this little V6 combo sounds rather generous. Adding DX50 into the chain adds a touch of resolution and takes brightness down a fraction. I really like what I'm hearing from this combo.

I still however don't enjoy DX50 from headphone out much, only with SHR440 (to some extent). Though it's overly clear the advantages I get using line out.

H20...what firmware are you currently using with Dx-50? I find that the sound explosion done DOC2008 sounds really good out of the HO.

I'm using firmware V1.2.8. To be honest I haven't been keeping up to date with all these extra firmware, however I'm interested in learning more. If you would like to PM me some more details about sound explosion that would be excellent.

As in: Where to find it and ease of installing etc......

Oh right. Forgot about that -.-" Now for the new firmware...

I'm going to sell DX50, but it's true, I'm actually poorer. Unfortunately, this is the dark side of the pursuit of the perfect sounding source :(

BTW, I took a look at the 90's thread, and people there are talking about battery life, sound quality (some don't like the newest fw), when another fw will be released, etc.

I'm aware this will be subjective but in my opinion the difference between DX90 and DX50 (for me) is the same as the difference between Samsung Galaxy SII (Poweramp'ed) and DX50. This is a qualitative leap. When I first listened to DX50 after SGSII there was no WOW factor, but rather over time I experienced a greater musicality, separation and better sound sustain. In the case of DX90 after several seconds I had a smile on my face.

I made my comparison on CAL! headphones first and there was almost no difference between DX50 and DX90 except for the bass (greater with DX90) so I changed cans to ATH-a900x and the difference was significant.

I will be comparing DX90 2.0.0 to DX50 1.2.8 (didn't listen DX90 with 2.0.5 but I have read many bad comments about it so I'm not going to upgrade at least for now). After several seconds of listening I realized that there is more "air" between instruments, it's even easier to locate sound sources now, sound layers are better separated and stereo imaging is much more widely. The sound comes from the far left, far right, even slightly from the back of the head. There is no point from which it comes, sound is all around and this is the biggest change that I experienced.

Take a sample track: "Balligomingo - I Just Tell Myself" to find it out.

Another thing is "quality" of certain sounds. It seems to me that many of the instruments sounds better, more credible. Especially guitars are far more better to me. I recommend a direct comparison of the guitar from "Coldplay - Yellow" on DX50 and DX90 or "The Corrs - Little Wing" (Unplugged Album) - where in addition guitar plays clearly on the far left side of the stage which was not as heard with DX50.

Another thing is the vocals. I doesn't have the impression that they are behind the entire layer of other sounds as it is in DX50. Now they are neither closer nor further, just are present and make a whole presentation.

Drivers?  Drivers?  For Windows?    All of this for that?  Oh, iBasso is VERY playful, indeed.

Hopefully, there will still be a firmware release, with some upgrades.  But I have the feeling the DX50 is nearing the end of new firmwares (look at the DX100's last update- long time ago).

Guess we'll see what comes next.  I'm not holding out much hope for big improvements, maybe just some little stuff.  Looks like iBasso is putting its eggs in the DX90 basket.

Yeah, "Locked" appeared regardless whether the switch was on or off. Hasn't happened since.

In the ibasso site appeared a new usb-dac driver for the DX50 and DX90. The new firmware with the DAC feature must be around the corner.

Link Provided Below. I use RKBatchTool to load and restore firmwares as to me it is the most foolproof method. Mega Sound explosion is a sound signature improvement over 1.2.8 IMO.

Also, over at Ibasso site they have released USB-DAC for 32bit and 64bit:

DX50&DX90 USB-DAC driver for Windows OS, Jun 21st, 2014

so it seems the DX-50 firmware will be here very shortly.

I'm guessing u need the new FW. Tried it on xp and vista and it installs but that's about it. I think I have a dsd dropdown on my Foobar devices but it might be from another device

I have just discovered by accident that the DX50 with FW 1.2.8 PLAYS AIFF Files redface.gif

...after assiduously converting almost my entire library into ALAC. I suppose the quality is the same, and I can get more on that 64GB card!

Currently enjoying DX50 -> Custom Art silver IC -> Tube Amp BL-2 -> Grado SR225i with Yew Woodworks Cocobolo cups.

The SQ achievable from a modern portable rig is impressive!

Does anyone use the Fiio E11 with their DX50? I don't have a big budget and I like the look of this one as it has a replaceable battery. Any good recommendations or should I go for the E7 which also seems to be a popular model.
