Hi, I use low gain at around 165-170 and I listen pretty loud.

I personally dislike EQ so I don't use it at all on higher end stuff. Sometimes on my phone I do though.

I listen without any EQ too - I just like the sound much better.

I was using mid gain and 200 with the DX50 and the EP830....I should take better care for my ears I guess...I am switching to lower volume and buying GR07 :) Thanks!

Thanks again!
Cheers!

Have you decided on whether you prefer dynamic or BA drivers?

What are your suggestions on the gain level and the EQ to use on DX50?

Have a great day!
Y.K.

Just use whatever gain and EQ sounds best to your ears. As everyone hears differently, the opinions and preferences of others may not suit your ears at all.

There are BAs that sound like dynamics (Sony Xba3) and dynamics that sound like BAs (RE400) so it's hard to tell what's what nowadays

A question about the 3x Gain settings

Do each of these settings simply 'add' a certain db of 'volume' or are they similar to a Microphone Gain setting on a mixing desk which increases the sensitivity of the microphone so that it picks up [in effect] more frequencies?

I'm basically unsure of the exact nature and function of the gain settings

or example, instead of clicking to gain3 (the loudest) would it be exactly the same if I simply turned up the volume by the same amount or is there a definite difference in functions here?

Thanks :)

Is anyone having issues with the DX50 not responding when it starts up on the browse files or scan sd screen? It doesn't respond unless I remove and reinsert the sd card and it goes to the main menu.

I am fine with any tech solution that matches my needs. Currently I am reading about both and given my budget it seems drivers are more suitable. Of course I will be glad to check all possible BAs up to $100-$150 that have decent bass power. I don't need bass-monsters - I just I prefer the lows to be thicker and more juicy. Thanks!

Cheers.

YK

Thanks smily_headphones1.gif

The gain switch purpose is to provide enough power to drive hard to drive headphones. My prior experience with gain switches is that not only you drive input signal up but unfortunately noise as well due to gain circuitry. However I was told it wasn't the case with today's electronics. I am positive someone with electronics design skills will be able to chip in with a better explanation. Google is there too if you wanna dig into a deeper explanation.

Twice today - once on the browse files screen and once after scanning media. Had to reboot and rescan twice. And than the volume bug again - third reboot. It really spoiled the experience walking to work.

But the sound is so good that I am happily waiting for the next firmware.

What firmware version do you have?

I have 1.1.6 and had earlier ones, never had any of the issues you are reporting. The volume problem really concerns me, more so if it increases as this could damage your hearing. I have had 1.1.6 only since yesterday evening and have not used it that long, it might be an issue with that version. If more members report it then it's definitively firmware. I am wondering if there is a specific setup that causes it to surface more than others.

I've had the same problem and reported it to iBasso - I suggest others do to.

I just had to power it off and on again to get it to respond

I'm on 1.15. I'm going to update to 1.16 later when I get home.

I get stuck on the browse and scan screen just about every time starting yesterday for some reason.

My DX50 is of the 3rd batch, so I received it with the 1.1.5 - I used it for a day and didn't have this problem. I updated to 1.1.6 and today was the first time I had this issue. If it matters - I am using a Transcend C10, formatted as exFAT with the largest cluster size (since I use only large lossless files). I will do some testing and write back if the partition type or the cluster size were the reason for this.

Does anyone know how the dx50 sounds compared to the d42 mamba? Having to use a separate source on the d42 isn't a problem for me, as I just want the better sounding of the two.

You can experiment if you like on the cluster size but I have always used the default cluster size and tried not to play around with it. Try with the default and see if this will fix the issue. I am pretty sure you are not going to gain anything changing this parameter, play safe and use the out of the box formatting. Another advice; the initial format on the brand new card is usually fine for our purpose. You just make you life miserable by changing the parameter. A simple quick format is all it takes to get going.
