I was thinking about buying one of these yesterday and went to a local shop to hear a demo, but the guy at the shop didn't want to sell it - he thinks the build quality isn't good enough, so I think he may have been shipped a particularly bad batch or something. He claimed that 2 of the 5 he sold had to be shipped back to ibasso due to build quality issues (he also claimed the soldering inside was really amateurish - his claim, not mine). I was pretty surprised - I know it has had some hiccups with the firmware, but nothing like this has appeared on this massive thread ifrc. I still really want to hear one for myself, so I may have to roll the dice and buy one direct and just see where it takes me.

I don`t think it`s rolling the dice to buy from iBasso directly, if that`s what you were implying.  I`ve bought several items from them and they`ve been quick and reliable.  They`ve also been pretty good communicators through email...  The build quality of my dx50 is flawless and I`m super OCD about that kind of thing, and I`ve had no functional hiccups, either.  I say go for it.

Ew.

Speaking of that screen protector, I have been using my DX50 without the one that was included since I borked the thing during application.  Don't know where to get replacements from, seems not cost effective for anyone to order them from China.

My screen still looks like new, however, despite being naked.

I recommend www.screenpatronus.com. They are fantastic screen protectors. They actually improve visibility. It's magic. Or something. Science? Anyway they are very clear.

I ordered some screen protectors for the DX50 and sent them the measurements. The fit is perfect. So if you order under "MP3" and write iBasso DX50, they will know the right size.

Love 1.2.6 except for the gapless.  This is the best synergy and sound sig with my Westone 4R since I've had the DX50 (1.2.2). The increased bass is just perfect for the 4R.

Synergy is certainly part of the equation. 1.2.6 > Pico Power > Heaven VI is just about as good as I want a portable rig to sound. Overall though, I think that the DX50 with 1.2.6 is just an excellent source. It also happens to be ridiculously good value.

Please fix the gapless issue, iBasso. Otherwise do not change a thing about the sound of 1.2.6.

You pegged it.

Whereas 1.2.5 was able to pay multi-disc compilations properly, in order, the new FW plays a garbled mess: the first track of disc 1, then the first track of disc 2 etc. Operas are now unlistenable. Thanks, iBasso.

I agree that the DX50 sounds amazing. Unfortunately it fails to actually play the files I put in it.

I am about to embark on a long business trip. I will be taking my trusty iPod Classic with me.

IBasso - this is not good enough. I expected more.

I've always used different folders per disc.. so CD1, CD2 for multi-disc releases, but if they reside in one folder, try sticking to the filesystem sort e.g. 01-01-trackname, 01-02-trackname etc. for disc 1, and 02-01-trackname, 02-02-trackname for disc 2. That's how mine are sorted.

I 'Browse By Folder' so I have no idea how database handling ebbs and flows with the FW updates. I do hope that iBasso addresses your concerns.

I spend half of my life on business trips. Mercifully I am home this week; I don't hit the road again until Tuesday. Still know how important it is that the portable rig works on the road. It's our music anchor.

The DX50 with my fi.Q and the TH900 are keeping me up too late at night. I seriously have to put it down.

The gapless will be fixed next firmware.

DX50 has always had odd-seeming issues if you have multiple discs in an album. Short version: it doesn't use the disc X of Y tag at all (one of the reasons why iTunes is a terrible tag editor) so what ends up happening with, say, a 3-disc set is you get the three first tracks of each disc then the three second tracks, then the three third, etc. Mp3Tag has a function that will go through a selection of tracks and renumber them sequentially with a bonus option to reset the counter for each separate directory. For example, if disc 1 has 10 tracks and disc 2 has 13 tracks then the first track of disc 2 will be numbered 11 and the first track of disc 3 will be 24 and everything will play in the correct order.

That's what I was thinking - I was really shocked to hear him say this to me considering all of the impressions that I've read on here. He was really pushing the X3, but I don't think I'll get along well with the shorter battery life.

Me to Ibasso

"Hi there

I am really interested in the Opamp used in the DX50. Are you able to let me know?

Many thanks"

Ibasso to me

"Hi,
The OPAMP information is our business secret. I cant tell you what it is.

Sincerely
iBasso Audio"

Any clues as to what it might be ?

Interesting that some manufacturers are open about their Opamp choice and may in fact give you a choice to roll, but others like iBasso feel it is their proprietary information.
