New Bryston BDA-2 DAC Impressions Thread

So after hearing this wonderful DAC back in June, it's been on my mind all summer. Well today, I finally got around to putting in an order for one. Should have it in 1-2 weeks.

http://bryston.com/products/digital_audio/BDA-2.html

I really liked the BDA-1, but in the end, it never motivated me enough to pick one up. The USB implementation on that DAC was less than stellar as well. Great thing the folks at Bryston stepped up their game considerably with this new DAC.

My impressions from my first listening session (in my home) with my GS-X MKII + HD800s AND my (now sold) KGSS + SR-009s was this DAC was very good at showing every last detail in the recording, but still very dynamic and musical. My DAC-2 came off as dry and more laid back in comparison.

So more to come (along with photos) once it arrives.

UPDATE: Here is a quick link to my review of the Bryston BDA-2:

Did you order from Drew? He quoted me $2150 a week ago. I might have to order since the BHA-1 IS impressing me so far. Can't wait for your impressions Peter.

Nope...got it from a local Bryston dealer about 30 minutes away. No shipping that way...and I paid $2000. Not bad getting $400 off MSRP. biggrin.gif

About 70% CDs through my CDP via SPDIF and 30% USB.

I've already heard it's USB performance and it is fantastic! Very well implemented and so much better than the BDA-1 and a good step up from the W4S DAC-2.

He has not, though I am hoping to be able to borrow a BDA-2 from my local dealer in the future to compare to the M7. It will have to wait till after I get my 009s from Price Japan though :/

Yep, as Chase said, I haven't yet. But the reason I bought the BDA-2 is that I've heard it in my home and it did bring my dynamic and electro-static rigs to the next level. Something that the PS Audio PWD2 didn't.

If you can snag one (BDA-2) Chase, I would be very interested in your findings!

Not sure why many here have over looked it (I realize that it's pretty pricey, but I think it's worth the price tag), but it is one excellent DAC. Not that I'm a huge fan of professional reviews, but this one in TheAbsoluteSound really matched a lot of what I heard:

Next on my list is a dac, with in six months, which usually means two smily_headphones1.gif. I am around 3k budget so this is the lower end. About what I spent on my modded digital link but that is now over three years old so technology has moved on I'm afraid. So here I am, looking forward to impressions.

I was floored with this DAC when I heard it...something the more expensive PWD2 never did. Should hopefully have it by the end of next week. Stores don't carry stock typically as you can pick 17" vs 19" (rack mountable), different colour LEDs, silver vs. black. So there's a lot of combinations. I went with the 17" black and blue LEDs to match my other amps.
