The basic question here is what headphones are able to be worn down around the neck without the pads pushing against your throat? I was using my Audio Technica ES10s recently and as much as I love the looks and sound of them, they just aren't really doing the job I need as a portable. The problem I run into with them (and the same problem I ran into with my AKG 181dj previous portables) is that when worn around the neck they pads rest against your throat. This is rather hot and uncomfortable and kind of defeats the purpose of the portable.
So far, the only headphones I've owned that fit comfortably while being worn around the neck were my Shure 940s, and I ended up trading them due to not enough bass presence (along with them being a bit unwieldly to be a portable).
I generally prefer a warm sound signature, and my portable rig is a ipod classic running through the LOD to a Leckerton UHA-6 mkii.
I figure there has to be something out there of relative how quality with a large headband and likely cups that fold flat. I just haven't found it yet.
Things I've tried: AKG 181dj, vmoda m100, assorted grados (surprisingly this fit decently well around the neck, but open backed excluded this), my denon d600 (hehe, had to at least see, not exactly portable), B&O H6. Senn amperior, Senn hd25.
Do I have to break down and go for something like the yamaha pro 500? I'm trying very hard to avoid something that looks beats like, but I have seen plenty of larger people around wearing beats so there must be something to that design.
Any suggestions that you have would be appreciated.
