Thinking of upgrading from HD600 to HE-500, but have some questions first.

Budget: $600, slightly flexible

Source: Schiit Magni & Modi

Isolation: None/Don't Care

Preferred type: Full Size

Tonal Balance: Slightly warm and bassy, not fatiguing

Past headphones: I disliked the HE-400, too bright, bad tonal balance, and not enough mid-bass. I love the HD600 but find it lacking in speed, low sub-bass, and a bit in overall clarity.

Music: One of everything, mostly electronic.

I'm thinking of saving up for the HE-500 as an upgrade, I'll be buying it in a couple of months used for under $600 and I will need to sell my HD600 to afford it. If anyone has owned both or has upgraded from the 600/650 I would love some insight.

I mainly want the HE-500 to be an upgrade in terms of overall bass quality (speed/impact),to be clearer and more transparent, but not so much so that it will be fatiguing, and better/similar soundstage. I really dislike exaggerated treble and sibilance, which was a huge problem with the HE-400.

Only thing I'm having the most doubt about the upgrade is the HE-500's bass, I looked at Headroom graphs and it seems great and has larger presence versus the HE-400/HD600, but I look at the GoldenEar/Innerfidelity/Changstar graphs and the HE-500 is actually similar, if not lower at some points. Does the HE-500 offer more mid-bass versus the HE-400, because I did find that aspect lacking in the HE-400.

A big thanks to anyone who reads or helps. Appreciate it.

Going from HD-600/650 to HE-500 you will notice a more textured deeper digging bass, BUT the bass volume is less.

You might want to look into the Audeze LCD2 for a more similar signature warmth + better bass texture and quality than HD600.

He-500: more extension (sub bass), more precise more linear.
HD 650: more boom (volume and presence)

I would like to add the Mad Dog to the mix.
Have the planar extension and precision, comparable sound stage (very wide), pronounced mids . Check out its graph.

Also maybe the Fidelio X1. Maintains the bass body like the dynamic HD 650 but much more clear and fast.

Thanks for the advice. I've seen Rev 1's go for about $650 here, I've done some

research on them and may save for those instead. You said the bass has better quality and texture, but will it have similar bass volume and presence?

As a point of reference, I'm content with the HD600's mid-bass, it's just the sub-bass is lacking in electronic music. I'm hoping upgrading to the Audeze will have similar mid-bass, but with much stronger sub-bass.

Should I still go for them?
