Yup, yup... Since it's been literally decades since I've heard them, I'm thinking the same thing.

Totally agree.

And now that the price has finally dropped, it's much easier to get into as well.

How much is Amarra now?

Hey guys, I'm Tommy. I'm working on my story of how I got to this point, but I realize this is taking some time. In the meantime, anyone is more than welcome to ask questions regarding anything in my setup.

Regarding recent posts, I personally prefer Audirvana over Amarra, because about five months ago I found it more transparent and preferred the interface. In comparison, Amarra sounded more toward the bloated end of the spectrum. There were, however, many songs I preferred on Amarra. It simply isn't easy to switch from one to another, and so, for that reason, and the ease of the interface, I have stuck with Audirvana.

I believe it's only $100 now.  A far cry from what it used to be...

Wait, that's right.  Why did I think it was a hundred bucks?

I am so sick of iTunes but I need a remote. All my music is on a dedicate Mac Mini in a closet.

It's the only Apple thing I hate.

As many have said, thank you for the invite.

Born and raised in Bakersfield, CA. Moved to Laguna Niguel in the OC about 3 years ago for work/school. I'm finishing up a Molecular Biology/Biotechnology degree from CSUF.

Really enjoying the hobby so far. Do a lot of side-hobby cable making now to compliment my Head-Fi addiction.

I decided to start a thread a couple months back for one-on-one auditions, get togethers, and mini-meets for those in the OC area. A place where anyone that wanted to post what they were interested in hearing/auditioning could set a time, place and possibly get the attention of others that wanted to join in.

Feel free to drop by it sounds like something that interests you -- http://www.head-fi.org/t/665147/orange-county-california-get-togethers-1-on-1-auditions-get-to-know-head-fiers

Now back to the music

Thanks for the invite.  I've really enjoyed the meets and get togethers that I've attended over the last few years.  I joined in 2005 when I was in the process of upgrading my Grado SR60's that I was led to by a site called GoodSound.com (used to be a cool site for reviews of affordable audio gear).  Based on hours of scouring the head-fi forums I purchased a pair of AKG 701's followed by a Headroom Micro stack.  I lurk and post and like a lot of people I'm most active when I have upgraditis.

The first meet I went to was at someone's house in Orange County where I met Ray Samuels and listened to a couple of his rigs that I would have to be divorced in order to buy one.  I used the Johnny Cash American IV album as a test CD with the great cover of NIN's Hurt on it.  Ray hadn't heard it before so I sent him a copy as a thank you for sharing his rigs with us.  All in all a good experience even if most headfiers are a little introverted.  After that I've tried to go to every meet I can make including the one at the OC Holiday Inn, LAX Hilton, and the recent one in Woodland Hills.  I've enjoyed meeting and talking with so many like minded audio enthusiasts.

Outside of headphones I also collect and listen to surround sound music in 5.1 and in higher resolution from SACD's, DVD A, Blu-ray and downloads.  I would also consider dogs to be one of my things.  I don't breed them but I have known some spectacular beasts by rescuing dogs that need homes.  My last 3 have been Akitas and my current dog is the dog of dogs.  We live in a loft in downtown Los Angeles and a lot of our neighbors refer to him as the mayor of DTLA.

I have always made my living from photography and am currently the Education Director for Samy's Camera where I produce and manage photography workshops at 5 locations in California.

Oh now I remember!  I think there was a show special at CAS4 where it came down to $100.

I've put the thread in the group sticky.  Hopefully that gets some more eyeballs on it!
