Hi y'all!

Welcome to the SoCal Head-Fiers group.  When you get a chance, please introduce yourself to the rest of the group.  smile.gif  I'll start.

Many of y'all know my story already.  I kind of fell into Head-Fi when I started doing a lot of commuting by train a couple of years ago.  From lurker to poster to moderator to meet organizer and beyond, Head-Fi has been my main hobby over the course of the past year or so (outside of listening of course).  These days, I even dabble a bit in audio journalism... but that's a whole other story.

In my day job, I'm a mild-mannered consumer electronics product developer.  What that means is that some company will tell me they want a product of a certain type to compete in a certain space.  If it exists, I source it.  If there's something kinda like it, I develop it.  If it doesn't exist, I design it.  And if need be, I'll pull engineering resources to engineer it.  It's creative, fun, and challenging - but hey, it's a living.

M'lady Christine and I have been together for 15 years, and we have our little mutt Toby, but no kids.

My name is Joshua "uzi" Uziel, and I'm a headphone-aholic.  This is a support group, right?

I'm a born and raised Los Angelino, but moved to the SF Bay Area in 1998 after graduating from UCLA.  My wife is from the Bay Area and there are more jobs for computer nerds like me around here, so I let her win... a worthy cause.  Been with her for 17.5 years and married for 9.  I have a pretty good set of ears, but she's the one with perfect pitch.  While she's not as into this headphone thing as I am, she definitely reaps the reward of bummin' off my toys.  Anyways, that worthy cause thing... we have a pair of little girls who are also being raised to be music lovers.  The rest of my family live in LA (Studio City), so you'll all see me down there for whatever meets happen.

So the work thing.  I'm a long-time Linux geek... used to do kernel work (and was the SPARC/Linux kernel maintainer for a while).  Oh, and I started the UCLA LUG.  Shifted over to doing web stuff and have been working at music streaming service Rdio for about 4 years now.  If any of you want to chat about streaming music, hit me up.

My big interests are computers, music and photography.  Used to do music photography around here... before that whole kid thing happened.  Don't really have time for that anymore... nor playing music so much, but I'll still pick up my bass guitar every once in a while.

Hi, my name is Kevin Venable and have been into head-fi for about 6 months now. Before that I did most of my listening on studio monitors or my in room system. I am a music junky and listen to almost all genres. My preferred format is vinyl but really like streaming for finding new music.

Currently I am a Site Reliability Engineer/Linux Systems Administrator for the online work community oDesk.com but  have been both a professional DJ and guitarist at different points in my life.  I reside in Bakersfield with my girlfriend and her 2 kids which are the reason for me discovering how awesome headphones can be!

Hi All,

My name is Sean and I've lived in San Diego my whole life.  I got started on a journey for better quality audio when I found a deal on a pair of new Bowers & Wilkins P5 about a year and a half ago. I've been an avid Head-Fi reader since and am quite enjoying the journey.  I went to THE Show in Newport and the Los Angeles meet this year where I actually met "warrenpchi" briefly and had a great talk with "uzi" on his gear (hi guys).  It was really fun to try out all kinds of stuff I had only read about and talk to people who were also interested in headphones and related gear.  I had so much fun I might even reserve a table at the upcoming San Diego meet.

I fell in to Human Resources work about 12 years ago and the rest, as they say, is history.  In my spare time I like to ride my bike.  I recently built my first computer and have a Bottlehead Crack on order.  Definitely looking forward to putting that together. . .or at least trying.

While I would like to experience "nice" speakers someday, living in a condo complex affects how I listen to music so it will be headphones for me for a while.

-Sean

Aha!  So that explains why you're up and down the whole state!  biggrin.gif

I totally remember!  Sorry I couldn't chat longer.  Meet days (for the organizers) is always a never ending ball of stress... at least until we realize alia jacta est.  smile.gif

Warren who? tongue.gif

I've been around head-fi for a long time - not continuously - it tends to run in spurts. I live in Ventura and work in Goleta (North side of Santa Barbara) - so, I'm toward the North end of "SoCal" - any farther North and you are probably more properly on the "Central Coast". I was at the head-fi meet in Warner Center - it was my first meet. I'm a low-to-mid-fi guy - pretty much a bottom feeder... biggrin.gif

I have lived in California my entire life. I grew-up on a farm in Porterville and went to Cal Poly, SLO. Degree in Engineering and an MBA from Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks. I'm now the IT Director for a medical devices manufacturer (IOWs a pointy-haired boss). I'm also an old fart - married for 27 years, two kids that are 16 & 21 (gawd help me).

Hey All,

My name is Byron and I live in Temecula, before that I was in San Diego. I am originally from Kentucky, but have been in California since 1983. I have been into music and critical listening to music since I was 12. I just found Head-Fi last year when it became impractical for me to listen to my speaker rig. This has been a great resource for me and has revitalized a part of my life that I feared I had lost (critical musical listening) for good.

I tend to consider myself a rocker, but I listen to pretty much everything. My other hobbies include photography and computers. I work in the server and desktop virtualization field, I have been doing this for about 17 years, prior to that I served 13 years in the USMC.

I have been married for 25 years next month and have 2 kids, a 23 yr old son and a daughter that is a Sr in high school.

Hi, Everybody!

Lived and worked in the Los Angeles area all my life, and am a newbie to the Head-fi community (courtesy of a referral by my chum, Michael Mercer). Although I've always listened to headphones in various capacities, it's only recently that I've pursued it seriously. I'm hoping that my first serious rig will be Stax ear speakers and amp, but, in the meantime, I'm on the verge of busting out a pair of Sony MDR 7520s that I bought on a whim, and coupling it with a CEntrance DACport. Don't know how it'll sound, but I'll give it a shot. As for me, I love all things audio, listening to tons of music, and badly playing out of tune guitar, when I get a chance. No kids, but recently married, so one out of two ain't bad! I also scribble an online audio column about all kinds of relatively affordable products. Nice to be here, and great to meet so many positive folks!

If you decide to go that route, I can probably help out there... depending on which model you go with.  If we end up going for the same one, we might even be able to write that up.

Hey Byron, glad to have ya join us!  I think that - for a lot of us - headphones arose out of a practical need first.  Then, along the way, we discover headphones that are actually quite good.  Then they just keep getting better, and better, and better.

Hey Dean, still kinda mad at myself that I didn't get a chance to talk to you at the L.A. meet.  I hadn't (still haven't) memorized the PFO masthead, so it didn't even occur to me that someone from PFO (other than myself and Mercer) was there.  Are you LAOCAS as well?  I've been meaning to go to one of the events, but something in real life has always gotten in the way.

BTW, what were your impressions of the Abyss at the meet?

Memorized the PFO masthead? I'm luck if I can remember my own name! :)

You should definitely check out a LAOCAS event, both, to check out new gear and to meet with the members. As far as the Abyss, the bummer is, I didn't know anything about them prior to the meet, so I didn't hear them. Now that I know a little more, I'm kicking myself! Next meet, hopefully,

My name is David.  I got into headfi/audiofi a few months back. I would say im midfi right now at dragonfly->project sunrise 2-> audeze lcd2.  Hoping to make it hifi by the end of the year with wa22+hd800's (balanced).

Hey dsound, have you heard the MFSL version of that album?  If it's an album you love, that version will blow your mind... guaranteed.

I do love that album but no, haven't heard the MFSL version of it (I'd love to though!).  Funny side-note, Donald North introduced me to that album at the LA Head-fi meet bigsmile_face.gif
