Creative ZxR crackling @ 24bit and >48khz

Hi,

I finished building my pc not long ago and I am having a problem with my sound card and windows 8.

I am not sure why, but anytime I use 24bit instead of 16bit and anything above 48kHz I hear some kind of crackling or popping noise every 50-60 secs, similar to a game that would have the sound stuttering, in every single music and videos.

I am not sure if its a bug in Windows 8 or a problem with my card, I am not sure if I should RMA it but I am looking for suggestions.

Thanks.

What media player are you using?  Sometimes these issues are resolved by adjusting buffer settings, etc. Also check your windows playback device settings to ensure your ZXR is configured for hi resolution playback.

I have a ZXR with windows 8, using J River 19. I haven't experienced the issues you describe.  Good luck!

I am using wmp, foobar2k and youtube/twitch. It happens on every single one of them, even if I mess with the buffer settings. Thats what led me to believe that there is either a problem with my card or with my Windows installation.

Perhaps try your ZXR on a different PC, if possible. Or, reinstall your win8. Double-check your windows playback device settings also.

Also, my ZXR default settings out of the box sounded like crap. The SBX surround, crystalizer and bass were all enabled, which distorted the sound I wanted (2-channel audio only). Check all those settings as well.

I figured out the problem. The latest ZxR drivers (from july on their website) cause this problem. The old ones (August) work just fine.

Something so stupid O.o  You would think the drivers would work right.

Thanks for the suggestions though. :)

Sweet! Glad you were able to resolve this. I never considered that the driver update would be bad. Interesting.

Hope you enjoy your ZXR as much as I do. I really like it alot! dt880smile.png
