I won't talk about my "real" work because it's not really relevant here... the part that matters is that I contribute reviews around HeadFi, as well as InnerFidelity and - as of today actually - at Confessions of a Part Time Audiophile as well.

I've got kids and work and don't really see myself making it to a meet any time soon (unfortunately). But I might be able to contribute some gear if anyone wants to hear a particular piece. I've done that in the past (was it the very first Bay Area meet?) where CEE TEE picked it up and rroseperry dropped it back off. Or was it the other way around? Anyway, that's an option if anyone wants to take advantage of it. Often times I've got more gear here than I know what to do with so I don't mind sharing.

GREAT to have you hear John.  I've admired your reviews for awhile actually.  Jude turned me onto your stuff a long time ago.

Keep up the great work.

I write for Scot at Part-Time Audiophile as well actually.

Welcome there too!

Thanks Mike! Yeah, I guess we are "coworkers" of sorts, writing for Scot at his crazy little site. I love how different sites, the good ones anyway, each have their own "voice". I write very differently for InnerFidelity compared to here, and different still for Part-Time Audiophile. And each one is fun to do!

Anyone recall the head-fiers who were at the TOTL IEM table? We had the PF VIIIs, TG334s, 1P2, UEPRM, K3003 etc?

I'm right there w/ you bro.  I remember when I was workin' at The Absolute Sound and started writing for HiFi+ when it was a London-only magazine (it's actually the birthplace of my Sonic Satori column that appears in different sites) - that experience really gave me an opportunity to work out my own voice.  Only after that did TAS allow me to write for them years ago!  Funny when I look back.

But I also LOVE approaching reviews differently for various spots.  I know I write differently for PFO than I do for The Daily Swarm (which is a music site) - but luckily I get to try and help inform the music masses about what we're doing through my Sonic Satori column there, in addition to the music news stuff.

I really liked what Scot was doing the moment he started Part-Time Audiophile, and I'm pumped to be on the team - and psyched you're there as well now!!

My review of the CEntrance HiFi-M8 should be published tomorrow morning there.

I'm PUMPED.

Maybe you and I can do a conversational type of piece for PTA!  Talk about the state of personal audio, something like that...

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd drop a line here as well. Got invited to this group by weirdfishes, and it seems to be quite a rambunctious bunch in here already.

Found Head-Fi through the Slick Deals forums, strangely enough. There was a thread on a sale for Beats headphones, which naturally spawned an argument about how much they sucked. Someone posted a link to head-fi, which got me poking around here. What started off as search for ~$150 headphones to replace my old Sony MDR-V6's turned into getting sucked into this headphone gear rabbit hole for the past 2.5 years.

Luckily, I started to realize that I don't need to have the ultimate endgame rig to enjoy music, and my sanity is much more intact for it. If I could do it all over, I'd get an HD600 rig, and a pair of customs and call it a day. Most of my music budget these days are being spent on actual music, rather than gear, so I haven't been keeping up as of late. Would love to see what new hot stuff has come out by the time the next big meet rolls around, as I feel like 6 months of not keeping up is a loooong time considering how fast this industry is moving.

As far as music, I'm open to pretty much anything (except Reggae), but early-90s to early-00's  backpacker hip-hop, 50's/60's hard bop, and >mid-00's indie/alt rock is sorta my wheel house.

Anyway, I know a few of you folks from past big meets and mini meets. Hoping to meet a few more as time goes on.

Hey Folks,

I just realized I forgot my intro! I started as a speaker guy, car audio in the 90s, building speakers in the early 2000s. I joined HF in 05 after being a lurker for years primarily to find a portable player for a long trip I had planned and never really left :).

Just like QH, I've found the quest for "endgame" wasn't personally meaningful. Most of my time outside of work/family is spent looking for and listening to new music. I was one of those guys who cleared out Fry's and the Warehouse when SACDs were being clearanced out en masse.

I work on the Peninsula as a minor cog in a big machine and I'm sure I'll run into some of you at future meets.

Oh reallllly? Didn't know you had a collection of SACDs. I may have to come raid your collection at some point.

I don't know that I'd call it a collection. I've got ~300 discs each (some DSD, some just redbook) at home, work, and in my storage facility. I try to pick up at least 2-4 recordings a month, too. Had a year or two in there where my collection froze due to work/life.

Hey, Questhate, do you happen to be going to the Foxygen concert in SF?

I had tickets to the Saturday show at The Chapel, but it looks like both that show and the Friday show at The Independent got cancelled.

Hopefully this band gets their act together. They put on a good (if unpolished) live show, and one of the best albums this year -- but they seem to be unraveling as a band. Jonathan Rado just had a solo album come out, so maybe their focus is elsewhere. I did catch them while I was in Chicago, and they were lots of fun (Sam Chase has a Jim Morrison schtick going on).

The only ones I have coming up in the near future are Vampire Weekend and Beirut in Hollywood, The National doing a songwriting workshop at The Fillmore, Thee Oh Sees at The Chapel, Kanye at Oracle, Cut Copy at The Fox, Deerhoof at Bottom of the Hill, and Volcano Choir alllll the way in January.

Could you link me National tickets? And wow, that sucks for Foxygen..
