More Fiio X3 64GB MicroSD Issues! - Page 11

I had the same issues with ScanDisk 64Gb cards and formatted them using the player itself - a pain as I had loaded both cards with music (which had taken ages!) and had to start all over again.

They have performed faultlessly since then though so it was worth it.

Cheers, Jon

All the reading of this forum won't fix the file management issues with the X3. I only check in here occasionally to see if that long promised resolution from FIIO has manifested yet.. All I see is that I am not the only person that has experienced this problem. I do however seem to be the only person who will continue to speak out.... and I will continue to do so until FIIO actually steps up to the plate and solves the problem....

I also see several firmware updates for their new flagship unit the X5 when it has only been around for a few months.... Gee, this seems like deja vu ....

Hey, there is BETA firmware for the X3 that seems to solve all the file issues, the final release is expected within two weeks, check this thread for more info

Sorry I couldn't find the original post but you can see my quote there.

I tried the BETA and is very good, without a doubt it took a lot of time, but seems it will worth the wait.

The plan is to adopt the new firmware core from X5 (which has proven to be more stable and better audio performance no less) and also a revamp the whole X3's UI at the same time. So the current plan for FiiO is to fix as much bugs on the X5's firmware and as fast as they can, release a stable firmware, then migrate the new firmware to X3. Since the old X3 firmware is destined to be replaced, I don't think they are spending much time to fix its bugs just to release some minor intermediate bugfix that will take their time away from getting a stable X5 firmware first. Instead, they are gunning for the big fix. FiiO has chosen to do it this way as, in the long run, it means both X3 and X5 user will receive the same bugfix and firmware improvement in relatively shorter time frame in the future instead of having the same software team working on two different firmwares at the same time which will take longer time for everyone. I know there is no comfort in saying this, but until we see the next release on X5 firmware, we probably won't have the next X3 firmware. The good news is, the X5 firmware seems to be almost ready.

You should probably ignore him. Look at his posting history to see why.

Hey, have somebody used transcend micro sd cards?

I am thinking of buying TS64GUSDU1 card it is well priced. But I am not sure... I read somewhere that there are crashes in 2-3 months.

Experiences?

Is anyone having a problem formatting the micro sd cards with the X3 3.0 firmware?  I am trying to format a new Sandisk Ultra SDXC 64 gb card.  It is exact the same model card that I purchased earlier and was able to format it with the previous 2.x firmware.  The X3 recognizes a card is inserted but when I try to use the format function it gives me a message stating that the "TF card is not found. Formatting failed".   Any suggestions?

BTW, I also have a DX50 and the player is able to access the card and play the music. My PC can also access and read/write the card.

So I did a little digging and found the thread on using a tool called GUIFormat and setting the allocation unit size to 32768 to format the 64 gb card from exFAT to FAT32.  Once I did that, the Fiio X3 with firmware 3.0 was able to format the card.  Not sure why had to do this with this firmware when the older firmware didn't need the extra step.

Someone on the firmware 3.0 thread experienced the same thing I did with the formatting.

Fiio responded very quickly to an email I sent on the formatting issue with firmware 3.0.  Here is their response:

Thanks for your mail and support to FiiO!

Regarding to your problem, we suggest you use a tool to press your X3's reset hole then reinsert the SD card to have a try.
Could you inform us whether all of your SD cards can't be formatted by the X3 running FW3.0? We can use our X3 running FW3.0 to format the SD cards without any problems. We suggest you update your X3 to FW3.0 again.
You also can click the link below then search GUIformat, and then use the GUIformat software to format your SD card as FAT32. Pls note that, the allocation unit size is suggested to choose 32K or lower but not 64K when you formatting your SD card.

If you have any other question, please feel free to contact us!
Have a nice day! ^_^

I let them know that more than one user experienced the need to format to FAT32 before the X3 could format the card.  Maybe someone can try the reset or re-install the firmware and see if that works.

i have a brand new 64 gig from sandisk bought from amazon, but i cant get it working. tried the internal format tool but the message i keep getting is "file system not supported". when i scroll to STORAGE FORMATTING in the settings i get "TF card not foundformatting failed". read the thread guys but maybe its the fact ive spent about 5 hours on this im probably going stupid.

edit......ok i used this format tool and the card was recognised.thanks guys

OK, I have a 128GB card just got it today.  Read/write on PC is fine.  I wanted to format it on the X3 (Running Firmware 3.0) but it won't find the TF card.  When I insert the card it says it was inserted, then cannot find it to format nor does it show up in the "About" screen.  Tips?

Have you tried the GUI format tool from 3 posts up to format the card on your PC as Fat32 first?
