For the few interested, I received them yesterday but haven't had a whole lot of time to listen to them yet. I'll post some detailed impressions this weekend when I have some more time. I also should be able to do a direct A/B with the UM3X as I plan to meet up with my friend who owns them, so I'd imagine that's what most people are more interested in.

Zalithian all we need is a better treble presence a wider stage and a more refined sound compared to UM3x ! :)

Oh, okay. It has a wide wide sound stage, like the Sony EX1000! And it has treble like that except it's not harsh at all. I can't believe it's so smooth! It's so refined!

Lol, just kidding. Actually my initial impression is that there seems to be a little more sparkle, but I don't think there is much increase in soundstage. Anyway, this is based off memory of the UM3X, which I have not owned in quite a long time as I was probably the first head-fier to buy a pair of the UM3X. :p. I will try to get you guys meaningful comparisons on Tuesday evening :)

Zalithian ok! I will wait until tuesday... However I think you can give us some little first impressions about the sound:)

Regarding UM3X and UMPRO 30.....the only difference is the upgraded cable and housing.  The drivers and configuration are the same so they should sound the same.

Are you sure? Someone posted "UM Pros are tuned a little differently than UM Series with a more refined sound signature." was posted on Facebook, but I haven't seen the source so it's still a possibility they are the same in terms of sound.

I think that was Westone who said that so it has to be taken with a grain of salt. They jury is out till we get some comparisons to see if it is a mere facelift or slight difference due to construction or a real improvement.

I can't find the original source, but if it was indeed Westone - they would be lying by saying it is re-tuned if it's not. I for one would be angry and disappointed in them for lying about it. I'm assuming if there was no change then they would simply not respond to questions asking about that (which actually seems to be my impression. If someone knows where to find Westone saying that, I would appreciate it. But regardless, I 'should' be able to do a comparison on Tuesday along with a fellow head-fier.

Yes, I emailed Westone about this Tuesday and that is exactly what I was told in the email reply just yesterday.  "Same drivers and same configuration" which I can only assume means tuning.

I would be in full agreement on this since most companies would jump in a heartbeat to make one little tweak and say "better improved product"  which Westone has NOT done.

So I would say BEWARE of anyone saying I just paid $399 and because of that these sound better than UM3X....better clarity, better treble , blah, blah....

True, that would make sense. Same story for the W40 line then too? I got my UM Pro 30's for free so no complaints here. I know they sound similar to the UM3X but it's been a long time since I heard the UM3X, so I thought perhaps the 30's had a little more treble energy. Then again, star tips didn't exist then either - so maybe that's that. I'm a little disappointed in Westone if their new product launch is simply new cables/connectors and housings. Would seem to make the Westone 4 for $299 seem like a much much better deal than the W40.

Yep.   It should be a W4 with new cable and housing...nothing more.

That would be rather disappointing. Congrats to those who snagged a 'W40' at a discount price of 299 then!

If that's the case then this year westone releases would be rather lukewarm and disappointing.

I'll add my voice to the disappointed.  The high end universal IEM market is becoming increasingly competitive; if Westone thinks changing a few colours and spending more on marketing is enough then they're sadly mistaken.

If the iems are different (improved) then please delete this message from your mental drawer.
