To me, the bass quality of the ASG 2 is nearly or as good as the Roxanne AKR03, but the AKR03 beats the ASG 2 in everything else. The ASG 2 are miles better than the Pro 50, I mean even the UM3x are better than the Pro 50.

This I will disagree :)

I think it's about right, UM3x was released in June 2009 and Westone 4 in early 2011, 4R was announced in Oct 2011, the article was from Dec 2011, it all fits to me. The new UM3xRC I bought in 2012 had a dodgy driver connection (which were replacement of a pair with a dead driver after 2 months), and the ones I bought in 2013 have a dead driver now too. However, the UM2 I bought back in 2007 that I used to use everyday at the gym are still alive and well (with a replaced 1/4" jack).

You prefer the Pro 50? Thought you're not a basshead, care to elaborate? ;)

In a weeks time i shall find out the difference between ASG & Pro 50:D

Impression from limited audition of my 1st pair of Pro 50 (since the 2nd pair's driver was DOA, can't be bother listening to it), detail for the highs are slightly better than my UE TF10, pace is good and fast, but overall it's not as airy as the UE though, in fact I would describe it as "very forward" & "a bit congested"(especially the bass). However, as I only run it for 20 something hours, thing might get improved after prolonged period and that happen in most cases.

The 2nd pair actually sounds better to my ear(s) as bass driver on one side is defective, making the Pro 50 more natural and balance (in fact imbalance;)).

I find the ASG2 really dark and way too bassy even at the minimum bass port setting. All I hear is bass. :basshead:

To my preference, I do agree that the ASG2 is slightly better than the UM50 but not miles apart. I owned UM3X RC and W4R without any issues. Probably lucky haha. But Westone customer service is unrivaled! smily_headphones1.gif

Don't know, I've demoed to Pro 50 twice, I couldn't leave them on more than a couple of minutes because the sound signature was so wrong, no treble and clarity whatsoever and the low mods and bass were so muddy and messy sounding. At least with the ASG 2, they were just bass heavy with great sub bass. I think most of the dealers I spoke with thought the same, and that was why they stock the whole UM series except the Pro 50.

Although we all hear differently, I have to agree with Danz about the muddiness of the UM 50. In free market, demand & supply often reveal certain degree of the truth, simple as that.

In the past, I've tried W4R several times and it's former models in HK, at least I can't recall any negative impression towards Westone's craftsmanship from that, not until the day I was holding my 1st & 2nd pair of UM 50 and I said to myself: W...T...F !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For those who are happy with their UM 50, I'm glad for them as I really do. We all have different preferences, like u can see from my signature that I love my low cost wooden ear buds a lot whereas most of the time people can't be bother looking at it, let alone audition. What I'm trying to say is, at least we can alert other members here, then they can go find out what the truth is. Not everyone on this forum are allowed to have demo before buying. To me US$ 650 is a hell lot of money and I believe a lot of people out there feel the same.

Chill bro, although I can understand why you have such response:wink_face:

Alright, back to the topic, I've listened to M80 before so I guess M100 would share similar character. As SE846 has its new invention focusing on the bass part, whereas W serious are relatively leaning towards natural, therefore it's reasonable to suggest SE846. That being said, you may ask Danz 03 (from above) for his opinion as he own the SE846.

Or, you can wait until I get my ASG 2.5 in a weeks time then check my comment. However, the best way would always be having audition yourself and see, if possible.
