That's surely worth mentioning.

(EDIT:   That would be the UM Pro 30 I am referring to....W30 DOES have a large soundstage as well.  Sorry for the confusion)

Colorado Springs, CO and Anaheim, CA (NAMM) - January 23, 2014 - Westone, the leader in high performance audio and in-ear monitoring technology, will be demonstrating the Signature Series UM Pro 50 for the first time at NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants trade show.) The UM Pro Series 50 is the first signature model of the acclaimed Westone UM Series. The Signature Series brings superior sound for the stage or studio. Each unit is individually handcrafted in Colorado Springs, USA. The UM Pro 50 is the first professional universal-fit headphone from Westone with five balanced armature drivers per unit, delivering reference level sound and isolation for the stage or studio.

The UM Pro 50 combines five balanced armature drivers with a sophisticated three-way passive crossover network, providing enhanced sonic detail and a frequency range that extend well beyond typical in-ear solutions. Like every UM Pro Series model, the UM Pro 50 features Westone’s robust EPIC replaceable cable, constructed of high-flex, ultra-low resistance tensile wire reinforced with a special aramid fiber, and braided for ultimate durability, acoustic transparency, and isolation from mechanical cable noise. The new audiophile connector makes this cable solution conveniently user-removable, upgradeable and replaceable with a number of new and current Westone cable solutions.

With Westone True-Fit™ technology, Westone combines 55 years of experience with in-ear applications that yield a low-profile, lightweight, universal earpiece which delivers maximum comfort and in-ear coupling for dynamic music monitoring. • Sensitivity: 115dB @ 1mW
  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz – 20kHz
  • Impedance: 45 ohms @ 1KHz

From the above post: The UM Pro 50 features the most advanced drivers that we craft right now and are designed to be a great alternative to our ES5 customs

Seems like they leveraged on the technology of ES5 customs to build the UM Pro 50. Could be quite close to ES5? But can't ascertain till the official release and reviews are out.

Certainly hope so brother. The es5 long known not to have demo units anywhere is finally coming to us in a universal shell. Just hope they retain the exact es5 signature

Looking forward to it! For me I've always preferred the built and tuning of UM series opposed to W series.

Same, much prefer the housing of the UM Pro series. The UM Pro50 are not yet ready unfortunately. My interest in reviewing the new products goes in this order: UM Pro50 - W60 - W50
post #223 of 767

does anyone actually know specifically what are the tuning differences between the um and W lines? i know they are meant for musicians vs normal high end audio and stuff...but as in actual differences in frequency response, soundstage that kind of stuff. anyone?

Well musician's monitors typically have a smaller soundstage because they are designed to let the musician hear everything equally and clearly, as opposed to naturally. With the UM3X, the predecessor to the UM30, everything is presented very up-front, and despite having decent depth and dynamics, the soundstage is not very wide, meaning that instruments sound well-separated and natural individually, but the full sonic image is not very realistic because everything is presented at close to equal distance/volume, even if this is not the case in the original recording.

in case anyone is interested :)

a reply from westone's rep

Thanks for your email.  The UM Pro 50 is the universal option for the ES50.  They will be the same 5 driver design, just a different configuration for a universal application.  The W50 is designed to reproduce frequencies of pre recorded music, not live sound like the ES50/UM Pro 50. Please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks!
