I recently purchased the silver upgrade Toxic cable for my Sennheiser IE 80 - very fast delivery so kudos to Frank!
On first impression I could hear a sense of clarity (high frequency in particular, sounds smoother aswell), however, the soundstage doesn't seem as wide as the stock cable from a quick comparison - granted, a burn in period is recommended, Frank specifically notes up to 150 hours, so I won't be too hasty on my judgement with the soundstage just yet - hoping it changes over time.
However, I have encountered something strange (and interesting) - to be as detailed as possible I am using an Ipod 5th gen classic player - so far I have left the toxic cables to burn in for around 6 hours now and just got back from a quick listen.
What I find strange is when rotating the insert jack whilst music is playing, causes a change to the sound. For instance If I rotate the insert jack so the gold screw is facing towards me, the sound is brighter (a little thinner, more forward). Picture below.
As I rotate the jack so the white logo faces me the sound becomes more 'darker', sounds warmer and not as bright. Picture below
Has anyone noticed this? or clarify on what is happening? It is not a placebo effect I guarantee, maybe normal as the cable burns in? I have tested the cable with my iphone 4s and same effect happens.
