I recently purchased a FiiO X3 and I am busy familiarizing myself with all of it's functions. One thing i haven't done yet is hook the X3 up to my home hi-fi DAC. I have a question concerning this. My DAC is an all but ancient EAD Theatremaster Ovation pre/pro which does strictly 16/44.1-48khz PCM and of course Dolby digital and DTS. I have loaded up the X3 with hi-rez files both 24/96 and 24/192 all in uncompressed Wav. My question is this; I have checked the somewhat amusing owners guide, you would think a company like FiiO would employ someone who can translate Chinese to English properly, but i digress, and nowhere is there any mention as to what format and at what sampling rate the FiiO X3 outputs at it's coaxial digital out. I wouldn't imagine it would be the native bitstream simply because I have never heard of, or seen for that matter, a DAC that advertises that it decodes WAV, or Flac or MP3. Does such a DAC exist? My old DAC does not decode hi-rez signals so if I hooked up my X3 to it via coax would my DAC be able to play the hi-rez files on the X3? Does the FiiO convert the signal to some form of PCM? I guess that's actually two questions. Does what I'm asking make any sense or am I missing something obvious here? Oops three questions.......
