How does the UM Merlin sound?

I am actually thinking of getting a dac or amp, after I decide on which IEM I'm gonna get, but the budget for an AMP or DAC will only be around SGD300.

Is there a big difference between .flac and .mp3? I don't have any .flac files cuz I can't find them anywhere.

I don't want too sharp highs, I find the TF10s to have a piercing high sometimes. Another thing I don't want is bad instrumental separation or a narrow soundstage, I like things to be spaced out and the soundstage to be airy.

Fiio E17 is a good dac/amp with reasonable price, you can try the demo unit if it is available.

I would say if you "serve" Miracle,JH16,SE846,IE800 or K3003 with lossy music is definitely a HUGE waste, anyway it just my personal preference.

For getting lossless music, please google it yourself due to obvious reason.

I would strongly recommend TG334 for you, especially for the "airy" sound signature.wink.gif

Is the demo unit avaliable online? or only over the counter in a shop?

Hmmmm that's true, I'll try to find it thanks ! I have honestly not heard a .flac file so I don't know how it sounds compared to 320kbps .mp3

Thanks, I'll check out its reviews now.

Lossy vs lossless is no big deal to me personally.

You can also consider the se846. Amazing mids, great bass presence and impact, good soundstage, and very very musical. It's not an analytical listener's first choice and treble heads need not apply. For my choice of music (rnb, David guetta type pop, strange stuff like explorations of space and time, and some jazz), it's perfect.

sounds good for me, I'm no analytical listener I like fun in listening, being able to have details but not a etymotic type IEM more like details and bass though I like treble too

There is treble- it's just that it's more smooth than etchy if you know what I mean.

Really nice soundstage as well, very airy especially when run balanced out of my hm901.

And of course, comfort is amazing. Much better than my jh13, and certainly better than the fitears.

I have both k3003 and Jh16 (old ver), they handle rock and pop very well even with 320k mp3. I would recommend Jh16.

Yes, it's refunded fully if you don't buy it. It's for safety reasons I think in case people run off with them.

I see, how much did the amp cost?

I do realise that there's a difference in sound quality between my htc one and s3 but it really isn't all that significant, though it's identifiable.

I tried them all, even my ie800 are still inside my bag and this k3003i is still beside me right now
I think, u better with ie800 or JH16
The are great for rock

The good of k3003i is,
1. There is michrophone and volume control
2. U can change the filter which if u need more bass, u can change it (3 option filter)
3. The soundstage is quite wide and open (but you have to listening in "low noise" place)

The bad of k3003i is,
1. Cant change the cable, if u broke it, done
2. I dont think it is an IEM because i cant use it to stage performing as a monitor
It is a semi open "iem"
You can hear outside sound
So you have to listen in a low noise place

If you want to use it for traveling, i will pick JH16 freqphase
Ie800 cable is quite annoying for traveling. But if you dont use it for traveling. Yes, ie800 is great enough i think

I used k3003i, acs custom t1 live, ie800, togo334
Togo334 is very good, but i think u need the very good source
I also tried miracle demo unit, and i dont think you will like it since the bass is small and i think it dont have power to rock music (i think the impact is not strong enough)
I tried shure 846 and dont think it will be good enough to rock music

Few days ago i meet Jerry Harvey, and he introduced me the new Jh16 freqphase
Yes, it sounds very good. Far far away better than the old JH16

I think im buying the JH16 very soon

Good luck with your choice, im glad if i can help you

Thank you man, what type of source would u recommend then?

Hi Nex,

Im using quite much source
I have hifiman 603slim and inside it all musics are in wav format
I also using iphone and ipad for easy listening and watching movies, for iphone all songs are in aac128 format
When i work, i use my laptop go to cafe and listening aac128 format with DACport centrance

I tried ak120 and i think it is quite good. But its not cheap
Ak100 is not bad for its price. I tried it also with tube amp and speakers. But i think its lack some "emotion" for slow music
(If you dont listen slow music, then ak100 is good)

And also, if i use a good player, i think the song file should be loseless also
If you are using a simple dap, i think aac128 is enough since the memory is not very big (my iphone is only 16GB)

But if you have a big storage, i think wav is much better than aac128 (in case if u use a good cans)

Sorry for my bad english smily_headphones1.gif

Regarding stage 3/4 , I tried both and I think they are really , really good. But the price tag is a huge problem.
