Looking for Closed Headphones for monitoring purposes

Thread Starter

Hello,

I'm looking for advise on what I should get to replace my FA-003, which I have been using for the past 3 years for mixing and work purposes. Unfortunately, the FA-003's headband broke after an accident at work and now I'm looking to replace it.

My criteria:

- Detailed with good separation

- Fairly neutral (ss shouldn't be fatiguing)

- Good or at least decent isolation for a closed headphone

- Comfortable

- Durable

(optional) replaceable cables

I am currently seriously considering Mr Speakers' Mad Dog or another FA-003 ti, so I'm especially interested if anyone can compare these 2. Willing to consider any other headphone below or around 300USD.

No need to recommend the following headphones, as I have test them and prefer my FA-003 over them:
ATH-M50

DT770

SRH840/440

Sony MDR7506/7509/V6

Thanks!

SRH940 is probably the most detailed closed back you can find in your price range. But it can be a bit harsh depending on the source and has a small durability issue.

What about AKG Q701? It's not as detailed or clear as SRH940, but it still has very good detail and doesn't have the durability issue that SRH940 has. It's also super comfy.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately, durability is quite an important factor for me, as these headphones might be used quite a lot by various ppl and might be traveling around with me. I actually had a K702 (which is similar to the Q701) and it's great but I will need a headphone that isolates, so open back headphones are out of the question.

If you don't mind on ears, dt1350 are great. Awesome build and isolation, as well as superb sound quality. Go to the link on my signature for my review on them.

Consider the German Maestro GMP 8.35, its an amazing monitor can. Solid like a TANK!
