Bummed I had to bail before dinner, looks like a blast.

I've read a lot of love for the Abyss.  I don't share the feelings.  A very good description (I won't name a name, but you'll recognize my paraphrasing of your words) - "A technically competent headphone, that unfortunately keeps tugging at your shirtsleeve like and 8 year old saying - didja hear that, ooh, ooh, didja hear that one?  how about that one?  I just couldn't relax and enjoy the music.  Plus I felt like I had a traction halo on my head...  Just not a $5K+ headphone to me.

That WA7 is so right in so many ways, which is why I absolutely had to have it!  Are you thinking about picking one up at all?

Yeah right?  That was a nice little surprise at the end of the meet... and using Mercer's MacBook and my Woo WA7 in the signal chain no less.  BTW, my personal thanks and shout-outs to Alex Rosson of Audeze and my bro Mike Mercer for making those moments happen!

Thanks Jimmy and Owen for being the designated drivers all weekend.  Man, that was so much fun, we gotta hang out more!  smile.gif

Did you audition them of the same rig?  Signal-chain coloration might have resulted in the sonic differences for you.

The Woo Audio 7 Fireflies : Beautiful amp, sounds butter sweet for my Q701 and other dynamic HPs but barely has enough pwr to drive my HE500, even on high gain.  I was at around 4 o'clock.  Maybe, this is a good thing opening up the amp all the way up?

I tend to use it for stuff that's easier to drive... as well as IEMs (which is made possible by the ridiculously pitch black background).

Gonna spend some quality time with this little guy too this week and report back with a full review.  Thanks Jimmy & Owen for letting us check out your gear.

The AKR01 sounded fantastic, you got a review sample of bothconfused.gif?

+1, you got a review unit of AKR01?  Jelly here, as that thing sounded great.  For me, it's like the best parts of the UE600 and ER-4PT blended into one unit.

He had quite the rig setup!  I've had the opportunity to spend some quality time with that rig, so I know firsthand how intoxicating it can be.  wink.gif

Is that...the newest prototype of the closed LCDs?

Yes.

Dang it! I always leave the room at the wrong time!

Yeah, you totally did this time.  But since you were in the Alpha Dogs test group, I'm a little less sympathetic than I would otherwise be.  tongue.gif

Yes!  That's probably the most unique thing about them.  Open-backed sound signature in a closed-back form factor.

-- K3003 is my final choice for earphone. You may say it has no "shinning point" while it actually has no shortcoming. The most important one, I took switch from headphone to K3003, no big change on the soundstage.

Really?  You didn't like the Tralucent 1plus2 over the K3003?

THANKS for making this years California Audio Show so successful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Frank, thanks again for making this meet happen.  Of course, you're welcome buddy!  smile.gif

And yes, lol, I think it's a foregone conclusion that everyone would like to do it again next year.  Would love to implement some improvements for next year though, as I have some experience with this.  Lemme know if I can be of help!

Jack, yes I concur with Frank, please be sure to send Simon again.  Is Simon coming to CanJam this year?  He was a big help to everyone who came by the Woo booth, and it would be terrific to have him at CanJam!

I'd like to send a quick shout-out as well about my birthday dinner Friday night.  In clockwise order around the table, my thanks to Mike Mercer (mikemercer), Drew Baird (Moon Audio), Mrs. Drew Baird (Moon Audio), russtafarian, jw111, Bill-P, Mike Liang (HiFiGuy528), Jason Stoddard (Schiit Audio), Mike Moffat (Schiit Audio), Tony Parrovecchio (Schiit Audio), Simon Ho (Woo Audio), Jimmy Moon (Astell & Kern), and Owen Kwon (Astell & Kern).  Between the BBQ, beer, and blindsidingly good rendition of Happy Birthday To You, it was a more than enough to make up for being away from family.  Thanks a bunch fellas!

Thanks to Alex Rosson, Mike Harper and Meg Harper for that special thing about those things and the other thing.  I imagine we'll be getting in touch very soon.  Funny that we had to travel 400-something miles to meet when we're essentially down the street (kinda).  biggrin.gif

And finally, to Dr. Alex Cavalli... for bringing some terribly good gear, for being totally friendly and down-to-earth, and for being cool under pressure with the kerfuffle from those guys... you are a class act sir!  I'm proud to have finally met you.  smile.gif

Sorry I don't have time to thank everyone for everything... y'all know who you are... and that such a post would be IMPOSSIBLY long.  wink.gif

Classic!

And wolfetan, this should be your Facebook profile photo!

mikemercer is in love.  shane55 is just too ******* happy.  Don't know who the stacked Audeze guy is... but if I remember correctly, the last time someone tried stacking headphones around here it caused some chaos.  wink.gif  And of course, wolfetan44 getting caught like a deer in the headlights is just plain lol!  Good times fellas!

For no earthly reason whatsoever, your league needs an exhibition game in SoCal during the spring.

In answer to Warrenpchi's question somewhere up there in the megapost - the Woo Audio 7... Once I'm done fooling around on the shallow end of balanced gear, I may consider it.  It is just such  stunning piece of gear.  Value always figures into the audio equation for me - the little Fireflies has a good built in dac, huge separate power supply, and just sounds so good and looks so good.  I think if I ever end up with an office with a door at work, I might spurge.  No dedicated listening area at home, and the little Woo is far to nice to relegate to bedside duty.

Are you waiting for the rumored OTL version at all?  Or is this iteration good enough?  Also a heads-up - it was running with the EH tube upgrades the whole time.

Check my post above Frank, I'm happy to help!  smile.gif  It's definitely more than a one person job I can tell you that!  Plus, I have some killer ideas for how to take it to the next level.

Your on Warren, your help is much appreciated and any others are also welcome. With the show and headmaster events I could use the help and more ideas as we have a whole year to get it rocking,

Was that questioned directed at me or Hifi? If me, I'm calling Jimmy tomorrow.
