New Gear

Is anyone getting any new gear? I was thinking this would be a fun place to share and maybe it can become a place where people can go and try out other people's gear before buying.

I just bought a Concero and the Woo Wee to go with a Stax Lambda Pro I bought from Audiogon. Hopefully they'll be as good as I hope. :) Everything should come in by Thursday of this week. Down the line, I'm hoping to get the Stax 007's and be done with headphones. Sounds ludicrous but hopefully that'll be my endgame headphone. o2smile.gif

Awesome!! Good thread idea, and that sounds like a cool step up!

I've got my eyes on a Mad Dog to replace my HD518. Anyone live near Dallas with one??

I just got a Schiit M+M stack for my home setup, and a Fiio E17 for my portable.

I am considering Beyerdynamic DT-770s, but would like to try them out before buying.

Which version of the DT770's are you looking at? I used to own the Pro-80 and the 600ohm version. I don't have the 600ohm available anymore since I gave them to my dad but I can could to help.

I am considering the 80ohm and 250ohm versions.  I have heard good and bad on here about both, but want to try them for comfort and sound quality from each.  Some on here swear the 80ohm is way better than the 250ohm, and vice versa - and while that can be true based on the amp you are using, I would like to find out.

I can tell you right now that the comfort on a beyer (770-880-990) is almost unrivaled. Very very comfy cans.

Comfort shouldn't be an issue but the pro-80's do clamp a bit more so the 250's should probably be better for longer listening sessions. It's kinda hard to pick your poison with those two but it basically comes down to more bass or less bass. The rest of the sound is pretty much the same. If you pick up the 600's it's even less bass which makes it a fairly balanced headphone.

I actually like bass, and that is one reason I am looking at the DT-770s.  Were you saying the 250s would have more or less than the 80s?

Since I would probably use these for long listening sessions, it sounds like the 250s would be the way to go for me.

I believe the 250's have less bass than the 80's. It's mostly due to the clamping force though and the slightly different drivers. I wasn't aware of it but it appears the DT770's were discontinued and the T70's replaced them. I would take a look at those if you have the money. If not, I would also take a look to see if you can find the DT770 Pro Limited edition. I've seen a couple of reviews and it looks like most people who tried it actually liked it over the regular DT770's.

I just picked up a Rega RP3 turntable. It sounds absolutely fantastic.  It makes my 600's sound completely clean.  Now if I could just afford the Liquid Glass, I would be in audio nirvana.  I might be willing to bring it to the next Dallas meet

If you'd be willing to bring your table, I'll being my receiver. That would be QUITE the pairing.

i definitely wouldn't mind getting some psb synchrony 1's to match with it.  i like my jbl's, but they can be a bit on the bassy side.  that's another "maybe someday" purchase

Hey Jeff,

I recently acquired a pair of Mad Dogs that I drive with a Schitt M+M stack. I'll probably be at the next meet, schedule permitting.

Just received up the Fiio X3 as a gift.  I'll make sure to bring it to the next meet.  I might have to pick up a DX50 so I can compare.  I think the deciding factor in me getting the X3 over the DX50 without testing either were the horrible reviews of the DX50's operating system.  I'll give some reviews once I have listened to it for more than 30 minutes.  So far, it makes me want to get rid of my ipod.
