FAQ and Advice of X3 - Page 10

Haven't really noticed any changes in SQ (yet).

Also, when looking through the downlod section of the Fiio site, I saw the theme editing stuff.

I like the looks of my devices clean and simple, so I made a custom theme (based on theme 1) with all black backgrounds, just the default white/grey text and icons, but any other colors were replaced with "Fiio red".

Clean looks, and it matches my Sennheiser Momentum nicely as well :)

would be fine to share our themes! (but I've not made one yet)

Good job on the update!

Gapless function improved a lot (still a millisecond gap between lossy files via file browser, but good enough).

The USB DAC feature is a great addition and it works flawlessly on OS X 10.9 without drivers.

What I think would be a nice detail, that if you switch to hold the screen goes off.

I definitely do not regret buying the X3! Thank you, FiiO.

Good morning,

I just got the X3 and updated the firmware to 2.05 and this little DAP/DAC is pretty amazing.

Much better than my previous Sansa Clip+ and E11 combo (and more portable to boot).

One question:

I have many folders organized by Artist then a subfolder for each CD.

I have noticed, like another user in this thread, that folders containing FLAC files do not show the Album Cover Art on the X3 screen.. Whereas my MP3 Folders show the album art. The artwork is named by "Album_name.jpg" in the FLAC folders and "folder.jpg" in the MP3 directories - I've tried renaming the cover art to folder.jpg and didn't make a difference.

Just wondering if this was a fix in FW2.05 or in a future firmware upgrade.

I'm a newbie to DAPs and not sure why there would be difference for JPEG cover art to show between a FLAC folder and a MP3 folder. Can anyone explain? or is it just a firmware bug?

To be blunt: rtfm. In more words: you need to name the jpg like each file or (like I do) embed the cover into each file. You could use foobar2000 for that in Windows (Batch attach pictures).

Thanks - I've done some more reading (read the f**** forums+manual) and I will refine my question as follows:

Will FW2.05 support cover art as a single folder.jpg file in the same folder as the FLAC files?

Given my current process of ripping my CDs with Exact Audio Copy - it does not appear that EAC can embed the cover art into the files.  This means introducing an additional step of using another program (either foobar2000 or MPtag) to embed the cover art - taking additional time.  My preference is NOT to embed the .jpg file into the FLAC file.

I have about 800 CDs I'm planning to convert to FLACs over the next few months (years!) and hoping to minimize the number of steps involved.

Hopes this clarifies the originating reason for my question.

I did find this discussion in another thread which provides a backdrop to my question as well:

the new firmware will support more cover format, please give us more time cause we just release 2.05 and working in the firmware for X5.

Thanks James!

I really appreciate the speed of your replies.

Is there an X5 already in the works? :)

Why do you think it would be damaged? I don't see why using it as a DAC would affect the battery charging circuitry in a negative way.

thank you. I was always told to not leave my phone connected to wall wart when it is fully charged

Battery handling has come a long way since the NiCD/NiHM battery phones, so once the battery is fully charged, the charging will just stop or go to trickle charge, to keep the battery fully charged. This shouldn't damage the battery, but will ofcause degrade it slightly over time, as all batteries have a certain amount of charging cycles it can handle. This degradation is minimal, as newer batteries can handle alot of cycles, and trickle charge shouldn't affect them as much as a full cycle.

So it is like using and charging it a lot of time?
