I'm probably going to try both once I get my pair!

My DAPS are either iDevices or the Astell & Kern AK100

Mike from Headphonia says the International is not powerful enough for LCD-2 (he loves it with HE-400, but that's 35 Ohm as opposed to the LCDs' 60). Maybe it won't be that good for the Dogs either.

Just placed my order for the Alpha Dogs. (Confessional: curious what my ticket # is in the pre-order line & how many AD's that Dan is ordering in the 1st production run).

I bought a used Schiit Lyr yesterday to drive the AD's from the line out of my Grant Fidelity DAC/ preamp. Should be fun.

Dan,

I've seen pics of the Schiit Audio Lyr utilized at some of your shows/ meets. Is there a pair of 6DJ8/ 6922 tubes that you prefer synergy-wise with the Alpha Dogs, or do you use stock tubes (if so, which ones) ? I realize that you prefer neutral, fast solid state amps & it comes down to personal taste, but curious what flavor compliments the AD's.

Must...be...patient...

That's a tough recommendation to make, especially with NOS tubes. I put in a vote for Orange Globe A-getter 1968 vintage.

gL!!

Do you have anything else to say about the PONO player? In a PM or different thread would probably be appropriate so as to not derail. I was surprised to see it considering Toblerone has an open-and-shut copyright infringement case should they decide to take action...

Slightly better, so, same idea as last time? Day two after I receive my new can I meet you at your folks place and you spend a half hour comparing them to your HE-6 to see if they're worth it for you while I amuse myself nosing through your ortho mods, lol.

I don't mind the headphone's weight, I'm concerned about the cable mass as well. If worse comes to worse, I might get the Alpha Dog and have someone make a lighter cable for me.

The coiled cable for the SRH940 was hella heavy for portable use. XD

Yeah!!  One of my friends in the biz has been workin' on that project since the beginning.

I'd be happy to send you a PM.  I was thinking of starting a thread, but I honestly don't have much

to share there lately as my buddy got very tight-lipped all of the sudden recently!!

But, I will say this - IF they had a player that could actually stack on something:

I was thinking about the Pono player and the CEntrance HiFi-M8 together when I

was playing it - knowing I could have a balanced Mad Dog (already own em) or Alpha Dog connected to it with

MORE power!!

Whew! That'd be fun.

Here is a question that hasn't been asked.

How much do the Alpha Dogs weight without the cable and with the cable?

Dude. I was just going to ask that question. Well, almost that question, but close enough. I think it is supposed to be heavier than the Mad Dog, which became noticeable the other day when I tried to listen for a couple hours. More so than the HD600...

What's the original T50RP earcup made of? Just plain 'ol plastic? I would think the 3D-printed material is lighter, but from what I've read, the Alpha Dog is actually heavier than the Mad Dog.

I just weighed my Mad Dogs 3.0 without the cable. They weigh 400g which is really quite heavy. If the Alpha Dogs weigh even more then I'm going to consider what I can do to strip weight from the headband.

Edit:

Mad Dog 3.0 w/o cable = 400g

1x Alpha Pad = 25-30g.

Headband = 200g roughly

I think the weight of these headphones is a serious disadvantage and though they are comfortable, that weight does make them more fatiguing for extended listening. With half of the weight of the headphones being the headband itself then I think time should be spent in looking into the creation of a lightweight headband. Any suggestions?

I think it might be too early to judge. Aside from weight, a lot of other factors come into play wrt comfort - take a look at the v-moda thread if you have any doubt. It is not a given that a 400g pair of headphones are more comfortable than a 450g pair or even a 500g pair. We'll have to try them on to decide, trying to guesstimate from the little info we have is pointless imo.

I don't see any reason why they will be more comfortable than Mad Dogs. The headband arrangement is the same.
