After scouring the secondhand market for a good DAC at a reasonable price I finally settled on the Nuforce DAC-80 to match my Burson Soloist SL. Overkill for the AD's?

Not in the least.

if anyone looking for an IEM that is similar to Alpha Dog, I recommend the W40 Westone, not as big soundstage but the sound is similar to my ear :)

I haven't experienced one yet, but I have heard good things about the iFi iDSD Micro and planars, I am going to check one out next month.

Ibasso pb2 really drives them well in balanced mode. SE is ok, but nothing special. Lots of power balanced though.

I would look a Fiio E12 DIY, it can be modified so the AD's get the power they need. I have the e12 and sometimes the sound on my dogs sounds a tad congested.

ifi iDSD micro drives them easily and sounds great...  not balance mode... the amp only has single end...

CEntrance HiFi-M8 is the best, IMO.  Fiio E12 is OK.

Have you guys tried the duet?

Try the recently discovered cayin c5. Mine will be coming in a few days but from what other head fiers said, they are like the e12 powerwise but better sounding

Wow this thread really got exciting! I really have been in search of the right amp/dac to compliment my iBasso dx90 and give the dogs power they really need to be portable.

Otherwise, I feel that where I am at in my home setup is the most I'm ever going to need to spend and climbing Summit-fi was attainable at half the price of admission.  (Head-fi world, not speaker world.. I am not ready for that until I have a real job)

After demoing the HE-560's, I finally noticed the slight glare in the treble.  I broke down and installed one of the pads from the doggie treats.

Yep- smoothed things quite nicely!

^+1, I have the Alpha Dogs(one treat per side) and the 560's they compliment each other quite well.

Makes me really appreciate what Dan has been able to do with the technology and incredibly good pricing on the Alpha Dogs!!!
