MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Revealed! - The World's First Production 3D-Printed Headphones - Page 520

Me it is still not my conclusion, for example I prefer the HE-560 or even the HE-500, but these are open headphones.

But as closed headphones, IMO Alpha Dog are one of the best for sure.

Open headphones are superior in some ways, that is why I have my DT880 for gaming. But I have a fan turned on in my room and I honestly can't stand listening to open headphones with the fan on because it noticeably changes how I perceive the sound versus the closed Alphas

That's how I understand it too. A closed headphone is better when you can't do otherwise.

Buy 1 kit “Doggie Treats”from website.

I can't use two dots both sides, because 4 dots have different sizes、heights.

That makes difference distance feelings comparing both sides.

Felt disc is not fit to early AD pad frame.

Mine AD is black frame and has a bigger hole.

Only can install disks in pads~

Using one dot(same size) with two discs each side makes me love AD more~~

Does MrSpeakers sell a sheet of “Doggie Treats”???

Just want to cut by myself~

^^ I have no idea what you are trying to say.

And the conclusion has this tidbit:

Quote:
if I were forced to offer an overall winner to you, there is no question that the Alpha Dog absolutely, brutally emaciated the 11 other models in this report. Disregarding price completely, it compares and even bests some of the $1000+ models out there, yet the drivers original manufacturing price was probably less than $10. No other headphone offers as much as the Alpha and it costs hundreds less than it should.

my AD

"Felt disc" can't fit my AD.

The only way to use "Felt disc" is installing "Felt disc" inside "Alpha pad".

And the DOTs

They are quite different size and height.

If i use two for both sides (means 4 DOTs are used), I feel that the right and left vocal distances are different.

If i use one for both sides (means 2 DOTs with same size are used), there is no issue what i mentioned above.

My English is not good enough. Sorry about that.

It was strangely ranked so far above the others.  While I agree that they are a truly superior headphone, I don't think they necessarily 'blow' away the competition.

In terms of pricing, yeah.

"The bass on this headphone rivals the Audeze LCD series, absolutely obliterating most other headphones in this report with raw clarity and liquidity, that purity in the bass is absolute sublime in quality on the Alpha Dog, yet this headphone can be easily tailored to meet your standard of quantity via small tuning screws embedded in the cups."

This is one of the strong points I really have to agree on. These have a speaker-like clarity when it comes to the impact of drums and electronic snares. Its startling how much detail there is and separation between such instruments when I realize I'm wearing a closed headphone. 80's synth pop music never sounded so good. I'm listening to Al B. Sure! "Night and Day", The Human League "Human", Depeche Mode "Never Let Me Down Again", Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls". All have excellent clarity and presence throughout the frequency range.

No.

My AD is older one arrived at 2013/10.

“Doggie Treats” was not one the market then.

wowbvbv, if you are located in the USA, you can find a similar material with Creatology stiff felt, I believe it was. Dan told me they were close, but not the exact same. I wouldn't doubt this, as it appears the material Dan uses is more consistent throughout than the Creatology stuff, but the latter would work OK for personal experimentation (not so well for mass production where consistency is important).

You can also try experimenting with other felts, fabric, tissue papers (even toilet paper), and thin sheets of open-cell foam placed in front of the driver. I actually found using a square of 2-ply toilet paper + thin layer of open-cell foam + 2 of the included felt discs did a good job tuning the Alpha Dog to my tastes and might prefer it over using "dots" in the damping configuration. I was able to get a slightly smoother treble characteristic, at least, without necessarily reducing the intensity.
