My ADs do leak a bit too, the isolation is pretty good but I agree it's a bit exaggerated.

Based on some comments I think people may have been confused.  I think it is exceptional in isolation compared to many headphones out there.  When the fit is right, the AD isolates very well.  Not IEM or hearing protector well but exceptional for a headphone.

Since getting the Alpha Dog I've been searching for a proper portable setup. Any recommendations? I did some research and heard that the ALO Island pairs well with the Mad Dog. I also have been looking at the iFi DSD. I'll probably shoot for somewhere in the $500 ballpark of amp/dac combo plus any fancy cables I "need" haha.

I've had good results with the Centrance HIFI-M8 and the ibasso pb2-db2 combo. I know there are other good matches out there as well.

The Fiio X5/E12 works well ... and its a DAP or DAC

The ifi DSD does not have enough power and its a DAC so you will need to have a computer if you plan on playing much music...  it does have idevice support but an idevice won't hold much HD music.  If you want to add more power to it then the O2 works very well with it...  Its a nice DAC but more for IEM vs over the ears...

As good as it is, if I have the money, won't I better better off buying used stock cans? I mean, the alpha dogs started from T50RP, and with $600, well $700, I can get used denon D7000, no?

I felt the Alpha Dog stood toe-to-toe easily with the TH-600 (Basically a D7000) and even bested it in some ways. It even went head to head with my HE-6 and scared me a little bit.

I thought it's like upgrading a honda with $100k to match a ferarri. But if you can even compare with HE-6, then I guess I'd have to try it myself!

Maybe it is strange but i love my alpha dog pairing with rockboxed sandisk clip zip... (better than my previous cowon z2... matter of taste probably... Or maybe is that sandisk who is very very good for the price.)

I'm planning on running mine off of the Geek Pulse when it arrives.  For now, I'm going to be using the Emotiva DC-1 (Benchmark clone in terms of at headphone amp)... and a Little Dot balanced tube amp.

Alright fellas, for those of you that are interested in getting a cable adapter for your Alpha or Mad dog (this allow you to hook up your favorite cable to the Alpha dog, in my case its a Audeze cable to an Alpha Dog), here is my brief review. I got this adapter from Charleston Cable Company, Christopher is an awesome guy to work with. He is such a nice guy and helpful, he literally cater to my every needs, he asked for the length, what kind of style I wanted, He make sure 100% satisfaction and best of all it's cheap! I got quoted for the same job from Double Helix and they charge at least $139, Christopher charge a Flat rate of $60 included shipping.

The Adapter is awesome, no quality loss (Disclaimer: I dont have bat ears), very flexible and durable. If you have an expensive cable and don't want to sell it, you should get this adapter. Below is several picture:

3 different cable here, from the left, is the cable I own which is crapping out on me. The middle I had Christopher made for me, it turn out that it was very heavy and the cable was very rigid, however it look close to how I wanted. After I expressed my concern regarding the cable, Christopher was nice enough to offer me a replacement at no extra charge (bear in mind he recommend this style but I persist that I wanted the cable to look how like the original one I had)

Overall I recommend Charleston Cable company for a cheap and quick service. Christopher has made the transaction very smooth and very satisfactory. Check them out

@Law87.....I just want to add that I purchased another AD on the FS forum, and I have found that it is very important to use the same wire for the adapter, as the wire used in the cable.  I have 8 different DIY cables with different wire, and 3 or 4 of them are favorites, but I did make the "triple threat" type connectors using the exact wire as the cable I use it with.  In fact, that short adapter is the last wire/connection into the AD, and for me using a different adapter/wire influences the sound of the cable that connects to it.  Zach from ZMF confirms this, I have inboxed with him, as he uses some of the same wire as I do.  Zach uses different ALO wire internally in his headphone mods, and his web site lists the different changes in sound that the different wires affect.  So, if you believe wire makes a difference, as most don't, it can go down to the very finest detail in your setup, both down stream and up, cables, amps, tubes, DAC, source, etc!

My 2 cents worth!

hmm.. very interesting, I have talk to Christopher, I may send your wire in to get it fix and compare the two. I hadnt plug in your wire because it keep going in and out. Kindly PM me the material you used for the Adapters.

Regardless of the sound signature, Charleston Cable Company and Christopher is a very good guy to work with.

Hey I am interested in any extra cables you may have for the AD. I will be flying home to San Diego tonight so I will contact you via pm. I can't see myself sitting around a 6 week wait time to get a cable upgrade
