MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Revealed! - The World's First Production 3D-Printed Headphones - Page 419

I had a rare hour to spend with my AD's last night, and put on a FLAC copy of "Lay it Down" by the Cowboy Junkies, standard Redbook spec.  Halfway through the first song, I realized that none of my open cans, even the Hifiman's, ever sounded this good to me.  I admit, the Uber and Soloist are huge variables in this. Regardless, the AD's had a a depth and a soundstage that trump any cans I've had over the years.

Glad to hear that you're enjoying them so much. Is that track from Trinity Revisted?

Naah.  That's the album.  I don't have Revisited, but I do have the original Trinity.  Hopefully tonight I will have a chance to listen to it...

Ordered, and will be here on Friday.  Gotta love Amazon Prime.

The Alpha's are seeming more and more like a possible endgame headphone to me.  I would love to read other impressions, especially from those with flagship headphones.

Hifiman HE-560 is going to have velour topped pleather pads.  Why can't that happen to the Alpha Pads.........Dan?  I would hate to think that I won't be able to listen to the Alpha Dogs through the hot sweaty summer?

i often test equipment using trinity sessions...Margo's voice lends itself to that. I actually don't have revisited, but that might be rectified real soon smily_headphones1.gif

You won't regret that one. Great music, expertly recorded and just a magic night. If you want to hear wonderfully deep and textured bass...this is the recording.

Dan, need to find a way to make this happen for all of us with wet ears!

What do you guys reckon about an E12 as a portable amp solution for the ADs? I'm trying to organize a modest portable setup, for when my ADs arrive, so that I can use them whilst working at Uni/traveling.
Looking to spend no more then around 180-200. doesn't have to be an amazing pairing just sound good enough for 2-3 hour listening sessions whilst at Uni ~3 times a week.

Will be using Laptop/Nexus 5 when in these situations.

Any advice would be great thanks, this wait is driving me crazy and its only been a few days

The e12 is a good pairing. Makes the AD nice and punchy. I liked it.

I like the E12 (especially with bass boost) for the AD too.

The HE-560 pads are based on Jerg's mod, which was done for sound quality, not for comfort or sweat issues.  This is very oversimplified, but one can say that velour gives the HifiMans better treble and the pleather gives them better bass, so the combination gives best of both worlds (again a vast oversimplification).

To change the Alpha Dog pads now would require a complete retuning by Dan, and possibly even a change to the 3D printed chambers, so that seems very unlikely.

The Alpha Dogs are so well isolating that they are going to be hot in hot weather, it's just a tradeoff.

That's why I also have the very light and open MA-900s to use in hot weather...

Surely they don't have to sound identical to the current pads, I don't think anyone would expect them too.

It wouldn't be any different from the Audeze pads, they have different pads that I am sure don't sound identical, so people can choose what they prefer as an aftermarket sort of deal.
