MrSpeakers Alpha Dog Revealed! - The World's First Production 3D-Printed Headphones - Page 412

From the instruction clip that Dan created and uploaded on youtube so I checked my Alpha Dog by hands and touched the mesh inside the earcups, there are two big dots, one for the left and one the for the right but look like no oval cds inside the cups so my Alpha Dog is now the newest version I believe. It is really worth to wait my Alpha Dog in 9 weeks (8 weeks to get to my distributor and one week from America to my country hahaha) . Nice work there, Dan aka Mrspeakers.

Still enjoying my Alpha Dog but this is the first time I have a high end planar headphone. Oh my god this is heavy, but today I feel better likes my neck and head have been adapted to it.

However, I haven't used any real high end amps before and am itching to try one. It looks like a local one has turned up on the second hand market and I am tempted to try it. I know there is at least one user with a Soloist SL who says good things, has anyone used the Soloist for an extended period?

I'm another Soloist user.  Paired with the Bifrost Uber, I think I might actually be done for now.  I absolutely love the detail and 3-D imaging I get with this combination.

Can some one please help me to explain "smooth the treble"? I have always thought that smoothing the treble means cutting the high frequency, but from Dan said, it's 2 different things.

Smoothing the treble means lessening treble peaks in this case (i.e. peaks above the overall/average treble response) but not lowering the overall treble response so much. From a visual perspective, if you think of it as a frequency response graph, it's literally what it sounds like. Many people prefer smooth treble, though tastes obviously vary.

It generally refers to eliminating peaks and valleys in the frequency response in the treble region.  This serves two important purposes:

(1) fundamental frequencies do not sound louder or softer than they should (e.g., notes in the middle of a fast run by a violin aren't going to stick out); and

(2) it helps present a more natural timbre.  Our perception of why a trumpet sounds like a trumpet, a human voice like a human voice or a guitar like a guitar like a guitar is a function of the unique harmonics generated by the instrument in question and the phase of those harmonics (think of sin waves shifted to the left or right along an x-axis which are superimposed on top of the "note" being played, i.e. a high A).  Peaks and valleys in treble frequencies shift the amplitude of those harmonics and, at least theoretically, take away from our ability to enjoy the natural voicing of the instruments.

Compared to many of my other headphones, when I run frequency sweeps (using a free ipad app), my AD's don't really have much by way of peaks and valleys in the trebles, but I still look forward to giving the "treats" a try.  Thanks again for offering this Dan and for the very helpful video demonstrating how to install them!

Edit - added a bit of detail since Hans beat me to the punch!

Did someone tested the AlphaDOG with the AK240 (direct, NON Amped) ?  it is a good synergy ?  enough power from the AK240 ?

Hey Skeptic, I almost hate to ask this, but how do the AD's compare to your HD800's regarding transparency and 'natural' sound?

Don't have too expensive AK240 but tried Alpha Dogs with stock AK100 and RWAK100 and think that RWAK100 has just enough power to drive Alpha Dogs without boost (will not recommend to use one since it boosts bass too, not just volume)

I hope that the AK240, from its BALANCED 2,5mm jack out, will be much more powerfull than the RWAK100....

But still, besides the output power, there is also the question of "synergy".

this is why a listening report of  AK240>AlphaDog  will be welcomed :-)

The synergy between RWAK100 is here for sure otherwise I wouldn't spend over 2 hours to achieve sound I'm after, the issue for me is comfort but DIYer can fix it

Sorry I meant comfort. The issue is that I have small head and because of this comfort strap installed is to long it almost touching Fostex headband so the fix is to make it shorter so that weight is destributed evenly instead of one spot

I have not read any post or comments about upgrades lately.  I signed up for the upgrade on 10/15/2013 and have not heard or received anything.  Does anyone have any information about the upgrade list or how much longer it may take?  Just want to make sure I don't miss my window for upgrade.  Thanks for the information/assistance.

I signed up for the upgrade the day it was made available and mine are currently off to MrSpeakers to get the upgrade. I believe it was 9/27 when the sign up list was made available.

I signed up for the upgrade the first morning it was available. I received the go ahead email on 3/13, and sent them off to Mr. Speakers the following morning.
