Good idea. It looks like this is more in line with the suspension headband method LFF suggests and uses on his products. I found that to be considerably more comfortable for the T50RP, and it definitely helped with getting a good seal.

That said, I still have to add extra cushioning regardless of the headband solution for my sensitive baby head.

Yep, I shortened the leather part of headband around 1-1.5cm on each side. I did that for both comfort and SQ reasons. In original setting upper part of earcup is pressing against my head more than the lower part. This is because length adjustment does not preserve width. This also means that seal on the bottom was worse than seal on the top. With this simple mod forces seem almost equal, so seal is better and comfort is better. The only drawback is that headband is sticking out above the head, but who cares biggrin.gif

Dan - you should try this.   This might help the problem of some people not getting a good fit on the Alpha Dogs.... I will try this myself when I get some spare time.

Just wanted to briefly report back and share that I have been greatly enjoying my first week with my new ADs. They are excellent closed phones and a major step forward from diymod t50rp's for anyone who has been sitting on the fence. My 4 year old is a big fan as well!

She danced into a sunbeam while rocking the AD's, and I figured I would share the pic:

Is it just my ocd, or are the cables on the wrong way around?

Didn't seem to bother her in the least, but she's already used to listening to a song or two on full sized phones every now and then.  The 100g difference between these and hd800's isn't really significant imo.

In another 6 months, my guess is that you will be fighting to get them back off his head hehe.

Good eyes!  I didn't notice until Lucky Thompson's sax came in in the wrong ear.

Regarding shortening of the strap, my AD's had the same issue. I shared the info with Dan and I believe he has already made the change in production.

Just received mine, and considered it. I've played with the fit a bit and I think I've found the happy spot. Guess that means I have no idea if my fit band is shorter.

I might add a set of shorter holes but our experience is that the current size fits most people. if the leather is too short the risers won't be able to exte nod enough for someone with a larger head.... We shortened the band in the first couple of weeks of shipping so almost all have gone out that way.

Between bending the headband metal and adjusting the cup length I can fit pretty much anyone with the current leather, it isn't always simple though.

About the headband mod:

I was using this mod today at work, and must say after whole day of headphones on my head I've got no aches around ears and generally I'm fine.
With original setting I couldn't stand more than few hours without taking them off at least for few seconds and massaging my head.

Interesting, I should try this too.
